Anyone Watching A Good Tv Show?

I managed to get three episodes in to ‘Marcella’ on Netflix before I gave up.

It was a brave attempt to cast Anna Friel as the most stereotyped detective ever in the history of lazy detective drama.

She’s a sort ‘ex’ cop that had a bad time on a previous case and is home in semi retirement wrestling her demons. But comes back to investigate the death of her husband’s pregnant lover.

She has issues, but she’s the best. She doesn’t do things by the book. The other cops don’t like her maverick ways. She’s allowed to investigate a death she could very easily be the prime suspect for.

Sometimes the pressure is so great, she has too much to drink, and doubts herself, but pulls herself together, for the sake of the kids that clearly are at a delicate stage and need a reliable family background. One of them is in trouble in school, having experimented with weed because they are upset that home is chaotic.

Absolute written by algorithm tired predictable shite. Blankety Blank with forensic death porn.

I have it on fairly good authority that the problem with this show (which I must confess I've never actually watched) is Friel herself. Far too much creative control and wields it like a sledgehammer. Nobody likes working with her and nobody is able to stand up to her. The fact that it's had more than one series is a surprise to many but people are watching it so I guess there must be an audience for it.

This doesn't surprise me. Swedish writer Hans Rosenfeldt who had huge success with The Bridge was involved with Marcella but it didn't really feel 100% like one of his stories.

It was always going to be hard to top last season though but still been another good season of Taskmaster. Not sure I am too keen on the next line up though not really heard of any of them

That last studio task had me in stitches, especially Alan Davies.  I'm always a bit sad when a series finishes.

I sat through 3 seasons of that as a kind of hostage(others liked it). It get worse every season.

Same here, and agreed. @chrisp65, you haven't seen anything yet. It's almost worth persisting with just to see how absurd it gets. But not quite.

I tried to like it but it got worse and I gave up, I'd say her ego got in the way and she tried to upstage Saga Noren, impossible task, a brilliant character played so well by Sofia Helin. There were quite a few female hero/lead projects after Saga and Lizbeth Salander, no one has come close so far.

Honestly I think the last part made me laugh more than I have laughed in ages!

There is a new country music based drama coming in the new year, think Nashville etc. The cast is solid for me aside from one person. Anna Friel.

I'd watch Anna Friel opening her fridge  ... but as this is country music , I think I'll  pass   ... or I suppose I could just watch it with the volume off

Edit - saying that I just googled her on yahoo , her face seems to contain more plastic than Ikea these days

Episode 4 of The Wheel of Time was thankfully much better, not that this was a great feat but still.

Pace slowed down and less liberties taken with the story from the books...

Spoiler

... apart from the Logain story-line that was all over the place.

Far from perfect and the no armor on soldiers and wardens is so stupid but I guess it's to save money. The odd chest plate, shoulder plate or arm bracers instead of full armor in this world just doesn't work for me.

Also the Lan character is either poorly written or poorly acted in the show. Nothing like the books at all.

Still a big step in the right direction and a solid 7/10 for ep 4.

Informer on Netflix.

I think I can see what's coming but it's still a good watch from my sickbed.

Considine is always worth a look.

I really couldn't see what was coming 😂

Great series though.

I'm sure it might make it even better as the characters are apparently well know ones but I have never played the game and know nothing about anything.

No issues going in blind as the story is pretty much a origin story for some of the major characters in the game (might be wrong on this but that's how I understand it)

I feel like Arcane needs a lot more love in this thread. It’s fantastic - the animation is so beautiful it papers over some plot related cracks, and a few places where it’s trying too hard to be cool. But even having said that, the plot goes places I wasn’t expecting and covers a lot of ground. It certainly doesn’t lack for ambition and is way better than any show based on League of Legends has any right to be.

And for what it’s worth, I think going in blind is actually probably best. If you know who the in-game characters are you can spot several plot twists coming a mile away, and it’s also painfully obvious which characters are going to have plot armour.

Quite a few of my friends have watched it on my recommendation and been surprised how much they liked it.

I'm 3 episodes in, change of strategy, moved from blasting through a series to multi watching. It really is very good and as you say the drawing is beautiful.

Glad to hear it! Episode 3 is a cracker. If you’re not aware it’s split into three acts, each three episodes long, so episode 4 is quite a change of pace too (in a good way).

Ep 3 packs the same punch as ep 6 of Squid Game did. Great episode.
