dAVe80
Well I'm on the train back from sunny Leeds. 1 hour and 45 mins play was decent, but obviously would have been nice to at least take it to the afternoon session.

I’ve spent days at cricket where next to nowt happened. At least you managed some play. Do you get a partial refund, like when it rains?

Had a few pints in the bars round Headingley, and one in the city before my train, so not too bad an afternoon with no cricket.
The Fun Factory
Not sure on the idea of batting first today. Doesn't the Oval pitch usually deteriorate and be useful for spin later in the test?

veloman
Well, well; fancy picking Chris Woakes (at last). How odd; he doesn't play for a Southern County of Lancashire. Must have been a mistake
PaulC
England 2 down already. Get Root as well tonight, game on! Woakes has been injured anyway. So how could they pick him.
OutByEaster? Posted September 2, 2021 Moderator Share Posted September 2, 2021 Oof. England don't really do openers do we?
OutByEaster? Posted September 2, 2021 Moderator Share Posted September 2, 2021 England to be all out for 175 with Root to get 110 of those.
lapal_fan
Fair play to bairstow here. Very mature and what I'd love to see more of, from him. A real battle going on here.

Thiugh hopefully Woakes can come in and shine.

Woakes will be out of poke, but you never know, it might take the Indians by surprise!

PaulC
That shot sums Moeen's career up. one of the most elegant batsmen to ever play for England but keeps giving it away needlessly
Rodders
Yeah very frustrating, had a great chance to go really big with that partnership but tossed it away. We've still recovered well, but that was needless.

I think we are in a good position but with good weather and the pitch flattening anything less that a 100 run lead and we could end up being in trouble. OutByEaster? Posted September 3, 2021 Moderator Share Posted September 3, 2021 This is a really good series and a really good test match. The next hour could be absolutely key to both.
sidcow Posted September 3, 2021 VT Supporter Share Posted September 3, 2021 It's got to help having people like Ali and Woakes coming in at 6th and 7th. All rounders really, in fact I really think Woakes should be higher up. I agree with @lapal_fan that he's probably a bit out of touch but hopefully he shows his metal here and gets a decent score before the real tail are exposed.
