not wishing to temp fate or anything like that.....

.....so at 164/3 what do we all think will be a good score?

I am paying my first ever visit to the Oval on Saturday. Sitting in the Bedser upper stand. Looking forward to it. Anybody been in that stand in the past. Any tips?

I'm also at the Oval on Sat , opposite end of the ground

you might know already, but they don't let you bring your own beer in , which i usually forget every time I go and have to chug 4 cans of beer down at 10:00  before i can go in ... you can sneak a few in if you opt for the old can in a Pringles can trick but it's easier to not bring anything

No cash at the stalls now so beer and food has to be paid for by card

I don’t think he’s to blame for that dismissal one of the few not to blame. Curran far too loose for a number 7

Scored more than Roy would've!

imagine what Buttler could be allowed to do if other batters stayed with him. However, he has also been short of the standard himself this series. Of all the luxury batters I'd rather go with Buttler than Roy or Bairstow for a specialist spot I think.

Buttler played well today, I’m glad because I’ve felt a bit sorry for him this series so far.

He’s supposed to be coming in when we’ve already got 250/300+ on the board, a solid foundation allowing him to play his natural game, not trying to rescue a poor score (again).

He’s not a ‘test’ batsmen as such, but if the top order did their jobs, he doesn’t really need to be - he can just come in and play his 20/50 over game (to an extent). He’ll go through spells where he doesn’t score and when we lose it’s obviously highlighted more, but he’s a class act imo and one of the few key men I’d retain after this series.

I love Buttler.  He's a great batsman who's aim it is to take games away, not build a steady partnership.

Because of how poorly we've been at the top (bar Burns a couple of times), he's had to nullify that part of his game and become more responsible..

I'd be dropping Bairstow and Roy before him.

I'd bring in Foakes at 7.  Assuming Dom Sibley continues to end the season well enough in form, he's up next. Burns, Sibley - a new no. 3 Root, Stokes, Buttler, Foakes, and then 4 from Curran, Woakes, Broad, Archer, Anderson, Leach, and Mo I guess, depending on conditions and fitness.  Bowling last on this pitch will hopefully give us a longer look at Jack Leach the bowler, rather than Leach the redoubtable tail-ender.

Bairstow needs to decide what's important to him, he used to be such a powerful force in the top 6, but he is not deserving of that spot at the moment in time.

That’s the way for Buttler to play. Is he a test batsman? I’m not sure but we are picking two batsman keepers so may as well just drop Bairstow and have Buttler as the keeper

Interesting stat I read on the BBC yesterday:

Quote
  • Since his recall in May 2018, Jos Buttler has made more 50+ scores in than any England batsman in Tests and has a higher average (36.51) than anyone in the current side.

https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/cricket/49674525

I go back to the point that he’s had to bat the entire series in defensive mode, then when he gets out cheaply, it’s highlighted more than it probably should be.
