Michael Vaughan said on TMS that sending Jason Roy in to save the test was like putting an alcoholic in a room full of drinks. Great ODI player, but in this kind of situation you're trying to reprogram years of trained behaviours. It must be hard to leave a 90mph delivery that you've been spending most of your career training your brain to smash through cover.

I do sometimes miss the days of players like Nass, Butch and Athers... all had terrible averages and played in mediocre sides, but they seemed to enjoy batting for hours. We still had some of that spirit when people like Cook, Trott and Collingwood were still playing.

I just don't see it from any of our players anymore. Bairstow and Buttler ticking along nicely, but in the back of your head, you're always thinking they'll go after a bad ball at some point.

The good thing about watching the third umpire like that is you get to see his (UNBELIEVABLY STUPID) thought process.

Would be interesting to see same thing in the Premier League.

"Grealish is a little greasy Villa bastard. Haha. Looks like a free kick and a penalty. Let's send that one back as checked. Nice one Kev, you can play on."

His luck will run out. Played and missed a few

It was more a criticism of our top order than a genuine desire to see Leach open the batting. We have a real shortage of batsman who can tough out an innings over several sessions.
