I can't afford a new car but was thinking of another picasso about 3 years old - but just wondered if anyone has any experience with the renault scenic? You got lucky once, don't risk another spin of the wheel, get a decent older VW/etc. They tend to be largely bomb proof, hold their value and age well. My wife has an audi a2, had it 4 years and it has only had new tyres on it each year and a cam belt change - she does 500+ miles per week. 55-65mpg and cheap road tax. Granted, it doesn't do many miles and my wife normally drives it - But it a very good car. Then, my parents have a Renault Scenic (they always buy Renault) and this is probably the better car.
