What's even more awful, is the amount of retired boxers who have ended up taking the same route.

Indeed. It’s more surprising, unfortunately, when a fighter doesn’t end up with that fate

Sad!! Really slick when using his main assets.

it is, obviously don't know what options Matchroom have on him but if you lose 2 out of your last 3 fights by stoppage and you aren't a massive ticket seller then I can't imagine many promotional outfits will be willing to sign him up.

Edwards saying to his corner, "Can I be real with you, I really don't want to be here." That's so sad, especially how vocal he has been, in the past, regarding his battles with depression. I really do hope someone is there for this very intelligent lad as he processes what's just happened. It makes me think of Sutherland, the Irish boxer, who lost to Degale in the Olympic final. He turned pro, with his whole future in front of him, only to be found hanging in his house by his manager Maloney.

That comment to the corner was really sad as well as concerning.

Maybe his future is managing, manages a few fighters and given his connections, I'm sure he will always get opportunities for them on big cards.

A lot more prevalent in the eighties and nineties when boxers were getting screwed over by unscrupulous promoters. I remember Witherspoon when he fought Bruno at Wembley, his purse was apparently 200 grand, he ended up with peanuts in comparison with the fee he was promised by Don King. I think Don gave his own son a hundred grand out of Tims earnings. The apple certainly doesn't fall far, that's for sure!

Feb card in Saudi confirmed. Wow.

Not bad, love them or hate them. They certainly know how to get a show on the road.

Takes the piss out of Hearn and  Frank Warren  really, that a big boxing fan can come in and change the face of boxing for the better. Yes, the Turki guy has money. But Hearn and Warren's companies have a few quid and could have got this together if it wasn't for them bitching all the time.

In fairness to those two  matchroom and Queensbury are run as business that look to make a profit.

The riyadh season has pretty much unlimited resources and doesn't care about how much money it loses.

They've also solved the problem of where their shows are broadcast, on TNT and DAZN with some of the recent shows on Sky as well.

But as of April, Queensberry moves over to DAZN to join Matchroom so you could see all of the Riyadh stuff being shown on DAZN only.

But the problem of different broadcasters will have caused a major problem, as neither of their respective broadcasters would have wanted to share the rights and kept fighters exclusive to their respective broadcasters.

Before Riyadh season, I don't think there had been a dual broadcast PPV in this country ever. (Fury since he joined Warren was TNT only, AJ was only on Sky before moving to Dazn etc).

But now that the PPV money isn't as anywhere near important as their purses are being paid directly by Saudi, makes it much easier to share the rights so Warren and Hearn's respective broadcasters both got the rights to show it and Sky show some of them as they usually have at least 1 fighter on the cards every now and then.

Could see them attempting to buy the dazn boxing section completely

Read something the other week about the Saudi's buying a small percentage of the whole group not just the boxing stuff.

They're huge in continental Europe, got most of the domestic football broadcasting rights in Italy, Spain, Germany and France. Wouldn't surprise me if the next time either the PL or CL rights next go up for auction they make a massive bid for them. Rumoured to be getting the UK rights for the Six Nations from 2026 onwards as well.

Hamzah getting a real live shot at a legitimate World title. I always thought this kid had the tools to go far in the World of boxing. This bout will confirm, either I overrated him, or my instinct has proven correct. I don't get the Callum Smith bout, it's a nothing to lose fight for Smith, he's been written off for years and rightly so imo. The Ortiz v Madrimov fight is a mouth - waterer, that's for sure. He never ducks anyone, and is always prepared to put his reputation on the line.

Think Sheeraz is the real deal. Win this, which I think he will in style and then goes into a fight with Janibek next.

Agree re Smith, felt like if Yarde hadn't thoroughly p*ssed off Warren, it would be him fighting Buatsi.

Ortiz vs Madrimov is a great fight, just concerned it won't happen with Madrimov confirmed to still be fighting on the Usyk\Fury undercard in a few weeks as who knows what could happen. Could get a cut, an injury or just be knackered if it goes 12 rounds.
