Did what we had to do against a dogged team....... we have to start picking win's like this to compliment our performances against the bigger clubs.

2nd place......... and still some fans aren't happy.[/quote

**** BBC....... 3rd place....... apparently the table they have up is a projected table based on current scores....... so it had us as 2 behind Man U and i was getting all excited thinking 3 points and we go second......

Nice touch from Carew at the end, giving the little lad his shirt after the corner flag incident

Explain?

Carew booted the corner flag during his goal celebration .. it flew into the crowd

Was very lucky he didn't do some damage with it tbh

Well, it wasn't pretty and against Stoke it's never likely to be. Stoke will probably feel they deserved to get something from this game, but in the end we did what we had to do and got a very important three points.

I agree with those who has Luke Young as their man of the match. He made some fantastic blocks and once again proved what an excellent defender he is.

It was scrappy, but it was a fantastic way to cap off a very, very good week for Aston Villa FC.

After Carew scored, he kicked the corner flag during his celebration and it went into the crowd nearly hitting people.

At the end of the game, he went over to the corner and got in with the crowd to give the lad his shirt as an apology.

Love Big John!

There was a small period in the first half where we played some great passing football -apart from that it wasnt pretty but Stoke pressed hard and were up for it.

Stoke deserved a draw and we were lucky to win- though our defending at the moment is incredible- such great blocks and determination in the back 4. I didnt think we could replace laursen but man our defence is awesome.

Great to get the 3 points- but its rare you get to enjoy the last ten minutes of a villa game!

We edged that game but needed a ref decision or it would have been even more difficult.. We did have chances to score quite a bit more but Stoke had their own chances to nick it. It was a battling game though, not one that was very easy on the eyes. Stoke were very tough to play against, they pressed high up the pitch and didn't give even our defenders a moments peace on the ball, Tuncay was good for them creating opportunities.

Both Youngs, Milner and Carew did very well for us. Good to see the old Ash-Carew combo for the goal, we need more of that again. Carew came alive during the game and started winning everything again and a lot of his headers went into good positions as well. Milner MoTM for me, got involved all the time, all over the pitch and made some great passes.

Play shit and win, something we didn't do for the final third of last season. Usually it'd be a draw or a loss. I am happy. 3 points.

we didnt play shit. played some great football at times especially in the first half. our goal was top class football, from downing especially. defence was immense all game.

man of the match Cueller - didnt put a foot wrong all game, in the right place at the right time all game

agreed.

Cuellar has been outstanding of late. Today gone up another level yet again.

Got a bit of luck here and there, and never looked wholly convincing (the last 20 mins were painful), but ground out the result which is crucial. Defence is excellent at the minute. Cuellar is showing why he cost £9m and I thought L.Young was MOTM.

Three games in a week - three wins and nothing conceded. Could not have had a better set-up for the big Xmas fixtures.
