Tony McAndrew got the desired response from his Villa side, as they produced a fine attacking display to see off Spurs.

After last weekend's defeat to rivals Birmingham City, McAndrew demanded a reaction from his Academy aces, and they duly delivered.

Kofi Poyser's eighth goal of the season put the Young Lions ahead before Tottenham grabbed an equaliser.

But Villa took the lead again when Ryan Simmonds produced a clever chip from the edge of the penalty area.

Jason Lampkin grabbed a third after the break, although Spurs pulled another back and began to control possession.

The points were made safe when Gary Gardner added Villa's fourth goal.

McAndrew was delighted with the response from his players after their derby disappointment.

He said: "We were very disappointed with the performance at Birmingham City last week.

"We had a long chat about it and fair play to the players, they have responded in the right manner.

"Young players are inconsistent and it is hard to believe that the performance on Saturday was produced by basically the same side that played at Birmingham the week before.

"But it was a great game - two good sides trying to play in the right manner in reasonably good conditions, with both teams trying to get it down and play."

VILLA: Dau, Grocott, Devine, Williams, Deeney, Lampkin, Gardner, Blythe, Carruthers, Simmonds, Poyser. Substitutes: Berry (for Lampkin), Roberts (for Simmonds), Johnson (for Grocott), Taylor, Barrett.

Just confirmation...

Villa's youngsters will get their FA Youth Cup campaign underway against Rochdale on Wednesday December 9.

The third round clash takes place at Villa Park and will kick off at 7pm.

Rochdale set up the tie by winning a 5-3 epic against Oldham at Boundary Park on Wednesday night.

Villa's participation in the third round means the Reserve League South match against Chelsea - due to be played at Villa Park on Monday December 7 - will now be postponed.

i agree entirely OBE we're completely ignoring local talent and they're all ending up down the road at blues, the amount of talent they have sub u16 level compared to ours is astounding!

I just heard it from sources Andy, both of the players we have definitely taken have a chance of making it into the 1st team though no doubt about that.

It is an interesting policy, whilst a little disappointing it does also make sense to a degree.

Of course we'd all love to see the club bring through 11 kids a year all born within half a mile of Villa Park but realistically there will only be a handful of players from Birmingham and even the Midlands who will go on to be Premier League players of the level we require. If we have got two of said players and find another 8 or 10 from various parts of the country/globe who fit that bill then it can only be a good thing in the long term.
