Anyone calling for Petrov not to get a recall will be disappointed. He is the club captain and thus will always play when available.

For me, the biggest factor in our performance today was the attacking four all having great games - particularly Carew, who, as it has been said by others, is absolutely impossible to defend when he is in the mood. Also, it was really, really great to see Luke Young back. It was fantastic to have two proper fullbacks working up and down the touchline, and I don't envy MON's task in choosing a defence for the rest of the season because Cuellar has been excellent this season (he had another great game today) and our CB pairing of Collins and Dunne has also been excellent - we have at least five very strong players for only four spots.

Anyway, in the end I would bring Petrov back in for Sidwell and Collins back into central defense with Cuellar shifting back to RB. It's harsh on Luke Young for sure, but today was only his first game back so he will need time to work back into the team.

Just because he is captain does not mean that he deserves to be put back straight into the team...isnt Gary Neville Club Captain at Man Utd, but he doesnt play every game.

I don't think that Cuellar should go back to RB, he is far more comfortable at CB and we looked a better side with L Young at RB, why play people out of position when we have specialists for those positions...square peg round hole springs to mind...

O, I reckon changing the team would probably send out the wrong message. I mean FFS, We've just won a game 5-1. "These are crap, we only played Bolton."

Well we haven't scored 5 since we beat Blues in 07-08 season, so something must of been right, balance was right, two hard working midfielders who kept the ball and gave it simple as soon as they won it. Milner and Young terrorising defenders, both attackers playing brilliantly. Why change, what does Petrov honestly offer I mean seriously? How many times has he done out on the pitch and dominated a game? How many times has he created opportunities for us, how many times has he really domianted a game with his passing from deep. The answer is really not many. So he's offering us the fact he can play sideways and backward passes and lack of energy, great.

I would say that Petrov has done this a lot more times than Sidwell!

I`d put Petrov in for Sidwell as he better on the ball. It`s a tricy one at the back, maybe collins in but whatever happens the full backs have to stay the saem. I thought L.Young made a massice difference yesterday.

Yeah he works as hard as he can but his energy levels are not close to Sidwell's IMO. Does he find Ash and Milner aswell? Petrov plays simple balls as does Sidwell, nothing special about either's passing game. Young and Milner had their best games in a while this season and that for me was because we won the ball so many times in the midfield it us allowed to break quickly and get the ball wide quickly into dangerous areas.

First goal, how did it come about? Tackle by Sidwell on the half way line, he plays it to Gabby...then to Milner. Milner crosses...goal from that.

Sidwell also makes far more positive runs than Petrov, he looks to run in behind defenders and into spaces, dragging players out of position, his final product at the moment isn't there, but I'm sure it will come.

Petrov is a better passer of the ball and alongside NRC we'd be just as good if not better than with Sidwell in the team.

Petrov plays better against the bigger teams when he has time on the ball, Sidwell plays better when its a more physical game and can run around like the headless chicken he is without looking daft.

So basically Sidwell can play against the lower teams no problem but i'd much rather have Petrov in the middle when we are playing the bigger teams. For the next game Sidwell can stay but not at the expense of NRC.

Its a tough one and these are the exact thoughts that i had sat in the holte yesterday. I actually thought that sidwell was excellent yesterday. The game should be about winning and not sentiment, but i think i'd keep the team the same. That said i think petrov and collins will come back for king carlos and reo coker.

Petrov and NRC are both defensive, it won't work!

I think it would work well. Petrov has the ability to be a good attacking midfielder, it's just that when he plays next to Sidwell, he (Petrov) has to do all the donkey work, while Sidwell isn't doing much.

Excellent post AP and one which i agree with. Petrov shouldn't be allowed anywhere near the first team again, even if we have injuries. Vastly overated and doesn't do anything particularly well!

Bolton aren't great but they are no worse than Wet Spam, Wolves and Blackburn?

All of which we played away from home. End of discussion? Petrov will surely return to the side because MON thinks he is the best defensive midfielder in the world.
