The emphasis should be on rehabilitation rather than punishment, with greater focus put on education, counselling and trying to produce people who can make a positive contribution to society upon release. At the moment, prisons are incredibly dangerous, corrupt places that serve as nothing more than crime 101 and simply perpetuate the cycle of crime-prison-release-crime-prison-release.
