drat01
Losing your job doesn't exactly jusitfy murder in my book so I'll be holding back my nominations for sainthood for the strikers, and no government forced them to commit murder did they. So you would categorise all of the miners because of the actions of two? Amazing way of justifying and scraping a very deep barrel

Gringo
So were these 'scabs' deserving of their fate then, your use of language suggest you might think so. Was it justified to murder men going to work to feed their families then or no? Of course it's not justifiable, and as mentioned above you can't tar a whole industry because of the actions of two. These people weren't your everyday murderers (not that I know what everyday murderers look like) and if the strike hadn't happened would probably have lived their lives without blood on their hands. They were desparate, their lives and livelihoods being quashed at the whim iof a mad woman in london. They were wrong, undoubtedly - but when people are driven to such actions you need to question the underlying cause. This wasn't simply a fight over some coal pits. This was the witch vs the workers. Unfortunately the witch won thanks to her supplicant MPs who passed the legislation and the booted mob she was able to hire from the police force. So you would categorise all of the miners because of the actions of two? Amazing way of justifying and scraping a very deep barrel No not at all, I was trying to learn something - it wasn't a trick question when I asked if strikers had murdered other miners, but for some reason you didn't seem to want to discuss it. b6bloke
I was 13 and remember it well, brother turned against brother, father turned against son, wife turned against sister and all because one minor decided he did not want to see his family suffer. I remember a woman going shopping and stiking miners wives ambushed her and wire wooled her face! Coach drivers employed to take non stiking minors to work were attacked at the coach depot! Was it Thatchers fault? of course it was but what i will say is that it is too easy to justify such wrong doings as mentioned above and blame it on Thatcher because we as human beings who know right from wrong should be fully accountable for their own actions! I say it took as much balls to choose not to strike as it did to strike!

thetrees
It's quite amazing how the good lady is described. 'Incompetent' she certainly wasn't, 'arrogant' she certainly was, and she was perhaps 'vindictive' at times. All three of those accusations could be levelled at the present incumbent of the position of PM, quite justifiably. By implementing secret ballots for strikes and selling of council housing Mrs T empowered an huge amount of ordinary hard working people with greater control of their lives and destiny. There are many people out there who will never give her credit, but were hugely relieved when the constant strikes ceased and they could maintain a steady income flow to support their families. But when she dies they will dance around the statue of Dennis Skinner in Bolsover, and Arthur Scargill in wherever, because it was she who destroyed them, not Scargill, not in the slightest. Gringo
It's quite amazing how the good lady is described. 'Incompetent' she certainly wasn't, her competence could indeed be questioned If you look at the years between her election and the war, the country wanted her out and her party was planning to topple her, so things obviously weren't going very well. Between election 2 and 3, a strong ecoomy did indeed keep her in favour, but then between 87 and 91 she was so bad the faithful committed regicide. There are many people out there who will never give her credit, but were hugely relieved when the constant strikes ceasedNo strikes cos everyone was on the dole. On that basis Cameron will need a war around 2012/13. History has proven that you cannot undo socialist mismanagement and negligence in two or three years. Still plenty of car workers around at the time. The fact remains that the moment the bullying and intimidation of 'show of hands' was outlawed, the honest workers of this country could finally make their own choice. My statement was based on the general held thinking that the Conservatives will win the next General Election and therefore Cameron will be the next PM. I make no comments or recommendations as to how well they will do, if at all. I certainly do not envy them in their task of trying to sort out the criminal mess that the country is in.
