The Film Thread

Tom Cruise the person, not that sure, seems to take himself a bit too seriously and he obviously loves himself. Also Scientology is nuts.

Tom Cruise the actor, is he a De Nero, Pitt, Penn or Day-Lewis nope but then there aren't many films he has done that I don't like. The fuss over Jack Reacher and him being small was ridiculous, the film is good and cool. Mission Impossible are generally good and enjoyable, Valkyrie again enjoyable, Collateral, Vanilla Sky, The Last Samurai, Jerry Maguire, The Firm, A Few Good Men, Born on the 4th of July, Rain Man all good films. He's in one of the most famous and most watched films ever in Top Gun and he's really good in Tropic Thunder.

Might not be the best actor but his filmography is better than most.

Jamie Foxx as Electro in Amazing Spider-Man 2

... well, my optimism for the film was suffering when I heard some of characters, but that pic I think kills it stone dead. Daft character, done badly by the looks of that. Not even sure Giamatti as Rhino can save it.

Saw Oblivion this evening, if you think naming the movie from the mid 90s that it is essentially a remake of is a spoiler then don't read further.

I imagine a movie exec watched Independence Day followed by Moon and then decided to make Oblivion. I prefer Will Smith to Tom Cruise in this Independence Day remake, there's a lack of comedy which makes large parts boring. But the comedy was solved by my mate, who had me in fits of laughter by leaning over and saying loud enough to me "Oh you did not fire that green shit at me", pissed myself laughing.

To be fair to Oblivion, it's a passable remake. If you've never seen Independence Day or Moon you could possibly enjoy it. Unfortunately most people have seen the former as it was a huge hit in the 90s and the latter is the best SciFi film of the last decade, so lots have seen that too.

So unfortunately for most this is a pretty bad movie and should be avoided. But at least it looks very nice.

You are KIDDING me! Paul Giamatti is playing Rhino!? He's one of my favourite actors, but didn't imagine him getting involved with comic books films.

I really enjoyed the first one to be honest, but that could solely be down to Emma Stone.

Nonsense, you can tell nothing from a crappy photo, the daily mail would have picked the worse one as well. Always the case with films, on set photos look shit.

I'm a comic fan, that pic does not give me any optimism for a film I already had doubts about based on the characters they're going for. That's a poor character from Spiderman's rogues gallery anyway and that picture does not fill me with hope for the design they're going for (ie his Ultimate line look. Although frankly any design they go for for that character is not especially good).

I know about on set pics and so on, I still can't saythat that pic makes me hopeful.

Foxx is actually the reason I think the baddie will be good. Plus I like Andrew Garfield and Emma Stone which is probably why I prefer the new reboot of the franchise over the Tobey Maguire one.

'Iron Man 3' to Become First Film to Play in 4DX Format in Japan

The film will be shown with tilting seats, blowing wind and fog and odor effects via technology that is expected to come to the U.S. this year.

"Fourth dimension" effects utilized by the system include strobe lights and equipment in the ceiling that can drop bubbles down upon the audience, who will pay a $13 (1,300 yen) premium for 3D versions and $10 for 2D films, on top of the regular ticket price. Average admission price in Japan in 2012 was $12.50.

“It was really a matter of timing that Iron Man became the first title for 4DX in Japan, though we were looking for a blockbuster action film, as that is what works best with the system,” Tagiki Ishiguro, a spokesperson for Korona World, told The Hollywood Reporter.

The 4DX system already is in use in theaters in China, South Korea, Thailand, Russia, Mexico, Israel and several countries in South America. The first film to be shown in the format was Avatar in 2009 in Seoul, where the company behind the system, CJ Group, is headquartered.

“The programming for the various effects is done in advance by CJ,” noted Ishiguro, who said that Korona World is negotiating with Hollywood and Japanese studios on the next 4DX releases.

CJ Group is reported to be moving ahead with plans to bring 4DX to the U.S. this year, with a view to equipping 200 theaters over the coming five years.

I've been to a 4D movie before. Well, maybe 'movie' is stretching it a bit. Think it was a Sealife Centre, or some such place. They had/have seats that move, air blowing about, and these little spouts that shoot water at you when I duno a Dolphin jumped out of the water and landed or something. I wondered at the time what would a 4D porno be like? Would it spunk in your face? Then I wondered what was wrong with me.

I watched

It's.....not actually that good, is it? I mean, it's not terrible, but it's not the most amazing thing ever, as I have heard it described. Then again, if I had watched it when I was younger, I guess my thoughts would be different perhaps.

At least I know what Fizzgig is now, he is pretty cool.
