Bit of fun, Friday film quiz. Which star studded film had the following lines, one every hour or so until we get it

‘if the needle drops below 50 your out of a job’

Maybe a war film, aviation, submarine etc damnit, no idea, feed us a clue. Disaster.movie maybe, towering inferno type thing.

Speed? Don't recognise the your out of a job part but the speed limit to be over is 50. I think.

I think Im close to the decade it was made, 40s I think, Churchill said something truthful in parliament, something Tories had done previously but never since.

Out by one decade

Another clue it is a classic British film With a veritable Who’s Who of British stars. Two of them playing similar type roles in future TV and film

The year was 1957 by the way And the clue was the FA Cup

Was it the danger man bond reference that gave it away

No, British was the clue that clicked, it's a film I've seen loads on times, love it, 50s, British and a biding memory of how many stars were in it all add up to HD, can't remember his name but the old chap who made the quote to Stanley Baker was quality, proper old ******.

I couldn't agree more. The first time I saw Eyes Wide Shut I remember thinking it looked nice enough, but I wasn't really taken with it. I've seen it a couple more times since and it's a grower, there are new things I notice each time.

I have always found Kubrick whilst technically brilliant, a bit of a 'cold' director.

Spurious showbiz comment- at one of my old jobs my boss's wife at the time was the au pair to Kidman and Cruise's kids when they filmed ESW in London. Apparently they  then offered her to move to LA to continue to look after the kids but she turned them down!

Agree, a director I respect but far from a favourite, his best film by some margin is The Killing for me, an absolute masterpiece of the genre.

one of the drivers was virtually blind, Ed I think, whilst bombing down a single road ' suppose we meet something?' suppose we don't, look on the brightside' 🤣

Just read a few reviews on Imdb, one reviewer described it as a black and white British version of Mario Kart.... Perfect.

Bad Luck Banging or Loony Porn - I liked the first half an hour when she's wandering around Bucharest and the way the camera often leaves her and focuses on things like statues and shop facades and so on, the second part a sort of short dictionary of anecdotes, signs and wonders, is kind of interesting, wasn't too keen on the final part though.

The Cook, the Thief, His Wife & Her Lover - This was an interesting spectacle, Helen Mirren and Michael Gambon were good.
