leviramsey Posted February 2, 2009 VT Supporter Share Posted February 2, 2009 Another thumping 4-1 win 45,000 attendance at their 80,000 or so seater stadium??? That's like almost 50% empty! 96'000 seats And yeah, as Lev said, there was a freak storm this weekend in the region which cant have made travelling all that easy. Their average gate in the league this season is 65,862. So they're barely selling 2/3 of their seats... shit club, no fans!
The_Rev
Indeed. Though I am guessing those seats in the upper upper upper mezzanine aren't that great.
NibblyPig
Bump again, another league win. Nine wins in a row, and eighteen wins in their last nineteen league games. Messi scored twice tonight, he is on 14 goals from just 16 starts in La Liga. 56 points from a possible 63, 12 points clear of Madrid and a whopping 22 points clear of the first side outside of the champions league places after just 21 games. The 100 point season is still very much on. The 100 goal season is extremely likely. The 100 goal season is more than extremely likely... it's almost a certainty! If they continue in their current form, they may get a *goal difference* of over +100

The_Rev
Another week, another win, another bump. 3-1 over Gijón this time, Eto'o with a brace which takes him to 21 goals from just 20 starts. Ten league wins on the spin, nineteen league wins in their last twenty games. If they keep going at this rate then they will end up with 115-120 goals scored by the end of the season, and the 100 point season is very much still on. Oddly they are still only 12 points clear as Real Madrid have won 7 games in a row, conceding just 1 goal. La Liga
Artetasgirl Posted February 9, 2009 Visiting Supporter Share Posted February 9, 2009 They are devastating at the moment. I feel sorry for Lyon.
The_Rev
They also have the best defence (conceded 16 in 22) and the best attack (scored 68 in 22) Amazingly they have scored 21 times more than the next best attack.
TheSufferingVilla
Just looking at the league table, the Spanish Primera División is starting to look like the Scottish two team and whipping boys league.
villa4europe
they average a goal every 22 minutes! the 1st goal last night was pretty much impossible to defend

Mr_Dogg
They finally lost. Lead down to 7 points. After a draw and a loss. It sure can change fast. Real Madrid won 6-1, and were winning by that score at half time.
Glarmorgan
Not only they have lost, it was at home to their local rivals RCD Espanyol. Ivan De La Pena scored both goals for Espanyol and these were hist first goals in the La Liga since 2004/5 season (double checked it with Soccernet), not to mention that he grew up in Barcelona FC, and was supposed to be one of their stars (such as Raul is for Real Madrid). This was the second game in a row they didn't play well. I am glad.
Anthony Posted February 22, 2009 VT Supporter Share Posted February 22, 2009 Not only they have lost, it was at home to their local rivals RCD Espanyol. Who were bottom of the league, and are now 18th.
The_Rev
Didn't Espanyol famously **** Barcelona over the last time they were miles clear at the top of the league and blew it (Beckham's last season at Madrid, where he was man of the match in pretty much every game during the run in)
Glarmorgan
Yep. Raul Tamudo scored a last gasp goal and practically gave the title to Real.
The_Rev
How big a deal is the Barca vs Espanyol derby? Is it like Manchester United vs Manchester City, where it means everything to one of the sides but the other is more concerned about their results vs a team from a different city entirely?
Glarmorgan
Hell no. Despite Barcelona's huge superiority and much richer legacy, this Derby is hot. First, they play for the same city, but above that, things go back to Generalissimo Franko's era. RCD Espanyol stands for Real Club de Espanyol. Real as in "Royal", or in other words - Esapnyol was established by Catalan people supporting the Monarchy.
The_Rev
I thought as much, but I guess what I was wondering is that if you ask Barcelona fans what they look for first on the day the new fixtures come out then the answer will probably be when they play Real Madrid, while Espanyol fans will look for the dates they play Barcelona on. A bit like City looking for United first, while United will always look for Liverpool. Its still a hot derby when they meet, but they arent mutually exclusive main rivals like our good selves and Small Heath are.
