turvontour Posted December 5, 2024 Posted December 5, 2024 Do Leipzig actually go full strength for this? If we had zero points in the champions league would we still be going all out in the remaining games?

Yes that fine, I get the maths of it and they probably will still go all out for it. It's just incredibly unlikely to go from winning zero games to all your games, and could conceivably still go out when winning all of them. Real Madrid sit in that last playoff spot right now. I was looking at it more from our perspective. If we had lost all our games to Young Boys, Bayern, Bologna, Bruges and Juventus, would we be sending the likes of Martinez, Watkins etc to this match with league games a few days either side. Maybe we would, I don't know.

Maybe we would, I don't know. On what basis do you assign that probability? We won our first three. Is it "incredibly unlikely" that we will lose the next three This is the fallacy of the maturity of chances (gamblers' fallacy). I think we would still go all out while there was a chance of progressing.
PaulC Posted December 6, 2024 Posted December 6, 2024 Can't think that this will be easy because Leipzig have lost their first 5. We have to be fully focused on this game and don't put another Brugge performance in. 2
Popular Post OutByEaster? Posted December 6, 2024 Moderator Popular Post Posted December 6, 2024 Winning this one puts us right on the edge of getting rid of two fixtures in February - with the size of our squad that could be a really useful thing. I think we have to go all out to try to get top eight - the prize of two less games is a big one. 18

fightoffyour Posted December 6, 2024 VT Supporter Posted December 6, 2024 Their first 5 fixtures have been a nightmare, so just seeing 5 losses would be quite simplistic. Their last 2 games are also their easiest. It’s an interesting dynamic for us that this is already a must-win game for them (and I mean really, absolutely must win - even a draw and max 7 points would put them out), but they’ll be thinking if they can beat us then they can win the next two and have a good chance of qualifying (69%).

Zatman Posted December 7, 2024 Posted December 7, 2024 If they lose today then Leipzig might have a new manager by Tuesday

Villa87 Posted December 7, 2024 Posted December 7, 2024 Think I’d go: Emi Cash Konsa Torres Digne McGinn Kamara Onana Rogers Buendia Watkins Case for Mings and Duran.
wedge Posted December 7, 2024 Posted December 7, 2024 (edited) I'd go: Emi Cash Konsa Torres Digne Kamara McGinn/Onana (if fit enough) Rogers Tielemans Maatsen Watkins With Bailey missing wouldn't mind seeing Maatsen more advanced and he can get back and help Digne defensively. Now we haven't got Diaby we haven't really got a replacement for LB unfortunately. Edited December 7, 2024 by wedge 1
Sulberto21 Posted December 7, 2024 Posted December 7, 2024 Think this will be our toughest game in the CL this season. 1
ferguson1 Posted December 7, 2024 Posted December 7, 2024 (edited) Cash, Digne and Watkins not starting against Southampton surely means they’ll start on Tuesday. Wouldn’t be surprised if Philogene and Buendia also get starts here. Be good if Onana gets some minutes either from the off or in the second half: Martinez Cash Konsa Pau Digne Kamara Barkley McGinn Rogers Tielemans Watkins Likely to be far more physical against Forest next weekend, so would be looking for Mings, Onana and Duran possibly to start that game.
