Straggler Posted November 16 Posted November 16 So Bluesky has just exploded as the social media home of choice of all the decent people who have abandoned X and the cess pit it has become. It is sort of cute there at the moment, with loads of people who got ground down by the constant hate and abuse of X blinking in the sunlight of a place that is reminiscent of Twitter back in the day it was actually good and engagement was worthwhile. Most of the people I used to follow are already on there and the vibe could not be much better. Granted it is not yet as feature rich, and it is struggling a bit under the weight of on boarding 1 million people a day, but it's worth it to avoid Nazi sympathisers IMO. Would be interested to see what you all think.... 1
limpid Posted November 16 Administrator Posted November 16 (edited) I expect that @villatalk.com will be popular And that people will add this to their VT profile. Edited November 16 by limpid change handle 2
osmark86 Posted November 16 Posted November 16 If you must support this social media format, then it is quite clearly preferrable to X. Personally I'll continue to pass on both. 4

Just followed now. I feel like a pioneer being one of the first 5 followers. Also just realised that being a pioneer and a follower at the same time may not be possible.

Lichfield Dean Posted November 16 VT Supporter Posted November 16 What would villatalk's first post be though? Something about sheds? A poll about a new badge design? Proposed designs for a new stadium?

Couldn't you automate that on the VT client side? They appear to have an API that allows you to create posts. Edited November 16 by osmark86
limpid Posted November 16 Administrator Posted November 16 I've just changed handle to @villatalk.com and something has broken.

Villatalk is hosted so I don't have access to the code. I'm going to see if I can do it with Zpaier. 1
blandy Posted November 16 Moderator Posted November 16 How to set your domain as your handle - Bluesky I guess you probably knew that? 1
Genie Posted November 16 Posted November 16 Could be a good opportunity to steal all the famous names handles to sell later… has @elonmusk been taken yet?

sidcow Posted November 16 VT Supporter Posted November 16 Anyone reckon this is the real X killer or just a bit of a fad. Big celebrities actually closing their X accounts is surely what will accelerate it's demise as a major Platform?
Jareth Posted November 16 Posted November 16 I've wanged on about it in another thread but I really like it. Was getting quite traumatised by what I was being pushed on twitter. It's not as useful yet for breaking news etc, but it is speeding up quite noticably. Needs more right wing views though, there's a distinct lack of argument going on and as we all know from VT, you need conflict to keep a site going.

imavillan Posted November 16 Posted November 16 i'd never join anything with a name like that... nfc....it's too close a name to that rabble down the road!!!! 2

But then they implemented completely different changes (which were fine for most people). 1
