sidcow Posted November 13 VT Supporter Posted November 13 (edited) I've held off as long as I can. The German Market has been open almost 2 weeks. I've bought a couple of presents already. I've seen Christmas Trees up in people's homes. So a thread to talk about all things Christmas. A place for idiots to try and claim Die Hard is a Christmas movie for the 400th time. What you doing? Where you going? Happy Christmas Villa Talk. Edited November 13 by sidcow 1 1
MNVillan Posted November 14 Posted November 14 Nobody loves the Brum Christmas Market like Mrs MNVillan does 1
delboy54 Posted November 14 Posted November 14 My step daughter and partner have had a fairly awful year so under pressure from the kids put up the xmas tree last week! Good job it is an artificial one, otherwise it will just be a big twig by xmas day
TreeVillan Posted November 14 Posted November 14 (edited) Seeing mince pies on the supermarket shelves before Halloween has even started is a sign that Christmas is being slowly choked to death for profit. Edited November 14 by TreeVillan 1
tomav84 Posted November 14 VT Supporter Posted November 14 couple of weeks heading to germany and austria to see what their christmas markets are like. frankfurt, nurnberg, munich, salzburg and vienna. expecting an obvious upgrade on the ones here and hoping to do a lot of my christmas shopping there. despite knowing how much i hate shopping and has no problem dragging me around all these markets, it's apparently an unreasonable ask that i want to find a bar to watch the leipzig game.... side note, trains between the main cities i just mentioned, first class for the german ones, £120 all in. madness. 1
rjw63 Posted November 14 Posted November 14 Last of presents arriving today. Started putting stuff up in March. Turkey and beef been in freezer since September. Stash of wine already in shed. Box of crisps, peanuts, dips, pickles etc already full. Party food also in freezer. Home made honey glazed parsnips prepped and frozen, along with garlic and herb stuffing. Yeah, not hot much left to do **** the German market though, I haven’t been into Brum for years and I’m not changing that for overpriced kraut beer and expensive tat. 1
Jareth Posted November 14 Posted November 14 I started this early last year, got on the Baileys every night and started adding cream to my coffee. This year I've gone full puritan. No Christmas to be discussed in my house until Dec 1st. 1

Was a few years ago when I did my German train trip but they also did table service for the ice cold draught beer they sold on board 1
tonyh29 Posted November 14 Posted November 14 I know it’s Christmas as the Internet is already building up a list of companies to boycott Boots win for being first in 2024 it seems

Similar situation here - really we should wait till after the early Dec birthday to get the tree, but if I'm going to fork out £50 on one I want maximum tree time. Have to admit I picked up a bottle of Baileys already, £8.50 at Morrisons this week.
UpTheVilla26 Posted November 14 Posted November 14 Going to be a weird one for us this year. First Christmas without my wife's mum who sadly passed away earlier this year. I know it's going to be difficult for us all, especially my wife, her Dad & our 2 lads. I'd always do the washing up with her after, we'd have a good chat and a laugh, I'm going to miss that the most I think. We are going to Manchester the weekend before to watch Peter Kay, it was my wife's birthday gift from me, so that will be a nice weekend but other than that I can see it being quite a quiet affair as we adjust to these sorts of occasions without someone who's always been with us. I'm looking forward to a break from work, it's been so busy the last few months, so some down time and no alarm is going to be much welcomed. But, yeah, on the whole, probably going to be quite an emotional one.
villa4europe Posted November 14 Posted November 14 tree will go up sunday 1st december markets havent opened here yet, another week away I've nearly finished the shopping, got some stocking fillers to pick up and the wife wants a coat that i will buy with her rather than in secret got the in laws coming for xmas dinner for their first ever english xmas main issue for me will be getting some xmas morning bacon
mrchnry Posted November 14 Posted November 14 First Christmas with just me and the wife this year as she will be eight and a half months pregnant. I'm really looking forward to chilling out and not having to travel the length of the country to be with family. Might do a jigsaw. 2 2

Genie Posted November 14 Posted November 14 (edited) My lad needed a new phone as his iPhone 12 mini is on its last legs so he has a new 13. My daughter has really gotten into F1 and is a big Mclaren / Lando fan so taking her to British GP qualifying next year (£400 for 2 tickets is insane). That’s the main stuff for the kids. Wife doing her usual “I don’t want anything routine” so no idea how that is going to play out. I need to have a think about what beer to buy. The Christmas overflow fridge/freezer that lives in the garage has been cleaned and turned on to make sure it’s all working. Decorations will be first weekend of December as usual, and probably come down some time between 25th and NYE. Edited November 14 by Genie
