Popular Post mjmooney Posted October 23 VT Supporter Popular Post Posted October 23 Let's talk about Tielemans and Onana as a pair. It has to be an advantage that they play together for both club and country. The way they complement each other is fantastic - I can see them being the Villa and Belgium centre mid duo for a long time. But beyond that, boy do they interview well. Not native English speakers, but they are two of the most intelligent and articulate footballers I've ever heard - and they both come across as really nice blokes. We're lucky to have 'em. 28

Two really classy individuals. They represent the club so well when interviewed.
nick76 Posted October 23 Posted October 23 They just click, they are brilliant individually but playing together they anllow each other to that next level. I’d also say Tielemans and Rogers click so well together, as Youri said last night he calls Rogers ‘My Pocket’ because when Rogers plays in the pocket it helps Tielemans. 1

I think it was Harry Redknapp who once used the phrase 'them Belgiums' in an interview. It's become a bit of a meme with a couple of my mates. 1
jayEm Posted October 23 Posted October 23 We're a really classy squad. Youri and Amadou, plus McGinn, Mings, Watkins, Pau, Konsa, Rogers, Ramsey, and others all interview very well and come across as mature, likeable people. I might be biased but I think we have one of the best teams in the league in that regard. Perfect place for Duran to grown and mature! 1
MaVilla Posted October 23 Posted October 23 personally, i want to see Kamara, Onana and Tielemans together. Them Frenchie Belgiums. 1

WhatsApp comment from a Forest-supporting mate of mine, this morning: Quote Villa must be the ideal club at the moment, hard to dislike. 2
TDR V2 Posted October 23 Posted October 23 Reminds me of a spitting image sketch from yonks ago. Various politicians and famous people just blaming "The Belgians"

I think it's because what we're doing is very pure in footballing terms. Emery has taken a beleaguered squad and lifted every single player far above what anyone thought possible. He's spent money, but invested it wisely in players with great attitudes that want to be here. We play attractive football. The core of our squad goes back four or five years still too. It's not Newcastle-style takeover-and-spend-all-the-money, nor is it Leicester-style plucky-little-underdogs-far-exceeding-their-capabilities. We don't have the whingeing-entitlement of Arteta's Arsenal, the glass-and-steel-London-exuberance of Spurs, the impressive-but-slightly-soulless-buy-sell-cycle of Brighton, the incessant-media-promotion of West Ham, or the pure insanity that is Chelsea. Really, what's not to like? Edited October 23 by jayEm 9

I thought he had oddly slipped into prison slang; I believe 'hold my pocket' means something else entirely 2
Don_Simon Posted October 23 Posted October 23 (edited) I thought this was a link to a new player called Them Belgiums. Of which, I would have been all over. Edited October 23 by Don_Simon Just seen this is the third time this point has been made. Not even sorry. 1

Yeah, both seem professional, articulate, pleasant people. I loved the way Onana went straight to Duran when he was upset after coming off. He is a future captain in my humble opinion. 1

Pottervillan Posted October 23 Posted October 23 (edited) Saw the thread topic and brain wasn't working. Just been trying to find out what position and nationality our new signing "Them Belgiums" was Edited October 23 by Pottervillan Seems I was not the only one 1
El Segundo Posted October 23 Posted October 23 When Tielemans and Dendoncker combined in the shit show at Legia I described them as the Belgian Axis of Sadness. These two are now the Belgian Axis of Joy. Onana was great first half last night, but he does seem to go down injured a lot. Tielemans is absolutely thriving now he's the no 1 and not Dougie's understudy.
nepal_villan Posted October 23 Posted October 23 Think nationalities and such is overblown. These players are professionals and pretty locked in to their specific role regardless of what club they are at or who they play with. I recall Tielemans being asked about returning to Belgium to play against Brugge in the UCL and he just shrugged. Sure - you'll have some players hyping things up, but a lot of that is just media training.
