Kuwabatake Sanjuro
I wonder if we could see Onana move forward into the McGinn role and Barkley start in midfield? Just to give extra robustness and pressing ability. Something like: Emi Konsa--- Carlos---Pau----Digne/Maatsen Youri----Barkley Bailey-----------Onana----------Rogers Watkins

Relegation fodder PL manager. We shouldn't be scared, they aren't Man City or Real Madrid. Lets hope they aren't Ipswich either.....

VillaChris
Gnarby was about 18 when he was at West Brom....I assume that was tongue in cheek. One of theirs I don't rate is Upamecano. He usually has an error in him so think Ollie will get some joy if we can get the ball to him quickly. It's one of those nights where we need to make sure we don't concede in first 20 minutes and then the crowd will keep going and we'll grow in confidence. Concede early and it will be a long night. Reminds me a bit of Liverpool right at the end of last season where pretty much everyone wrote off us getting anything and in the end we could've won that.
Villa87
I think we should go: Emi Ned Konsa Pau Digne Bailey Onana Barkley Rogers Tielemans Watkins I think we need Barkley in there to keep us composed when we are on the ball. I’m sure it will be Carlos in with Konsa right back - and that is where the game could be lost. What a fixture though!!!

Yeah possibly as we'd have Barkley in the deep playmaker role. I was just thinking also about when Kamara is back what would be the best way of utilising Onana, especially against the strongest teams.
delboy54
Who would have thought when Barkley was with us the first time round, he would now being considered as a critical player for us against Bayern Munich in the CL? Credit to him though, he seems a different player now under Emery. Hope Barkley does well for us on Wednesday, he could well become the player we all thought he was going to be when he first came to us...
VillaChris
Not sure I'd put Barkley in for this, Man. United is better fixture to get him in from the start. Ned I'd give a go just to have Konsa back centrally.
TDR V2
There's absolutely no reason why we can't win this, a full(ish) rocking Villa Park, could even stick a ticket price protest in there, the Germans love a ticket price protest. And if there is even one empty seat then heads should roll. This is probably the easiest game ever at VP to market and there are still tickets available, absolutely bonkers from Heck and whoever pulls his strings
duke313
Tempted to go back three for this, do we risk going with same team and Carlos again? Martinez Bogarde - Konsa - Pau Nedjelkovic - Onana - Rogers - Tielemans - Maatsen Bailey - Watkins
Mr_Dogg
They have played one good team this season and drew 1-1. Anything could happen Wednesday of course.
Alakagom
I really don't understand all the people putting Nedjelkovic in when he's literally below Bogarde on the right back ladder. Konsa, Bogarde, barely fit Cash, then probably Ned.
gilbertoAVFC
Why on earth did we not loan in a Lenglet-ish centre-back this season? McGinn a massive miss for this. I still think if we can cook up a storm atmosphere-wise these can be got at, but we will need to be perfect defensively which seems highly unlikely currently. I'm afraid the only option here is to give Diego Carlos a bollocking and hope for the best. Just too risky to play a kid in defence imo.
Stevo985 Posted September 30 VT Supporter Share Posted September 30 I'm confident for this one. Not confident we'll win, I think that's a big ask. But confident we'll raise our game and be at our best We've shown consistently under Emery that we lift ourselves for the big games against top opponents. Even in the small sample size this season, arguably our best performance was Arsenal even though we lost So I've no doubts we'll give Bayern a really good game on Wednesday

We can't risk Bogarde or Kosta when Bayern have players like Sane, Musiala, Alphonso Davies, Gnabry, Olise etc who might operate on that side They'd eat Bogarde for breakfast
PaulC
Got to be stronger in midfield so I stick with the same team but put Barkley in for Bailey

Last season's Bailey would be a no-brainer to start but he's looked a bit insipid since returning to the side. Perhaps a better option off the bench. As far as the defence is concerned, it's practically a given that Diego Carlos will make at least one error that leads directly to a goal so I don't see the harm in having our first choice centre-backs and Ned at RB, bolstered by an extra midfielder.
