mikeyp102 Posted August 30 Posted August 30 So we get entered into this as senior team in the champions league. I presume we play some days and same teams. Will be really good experience for our guys. 1

mikeyp102 Posted August 30 Author Posted August 30 “The UEFA Youth League has a new format for its 11th edition, adapting to the format change of the senior UEFA club competitions, meaning a larger entry than ever before in 2024/25.” UEFA

I was so angry after we won the next gen thing that we then weren't allowed to enter the competition because the senior team weren't in the Champions League. That was one of the worst "game's gone" moments of recent years imo.
skarroki Posted August 30 Posted August 30 If it's the same as the champions league it sounds crazy, we'll be doubling the amount of games for the reserve side with this?
Zatman Posted August 31 Posted August 31 They are usually played in the morning or the afternoon of the senior games Its a good experience to play different styles and will help adapt if they make the senior set up as last season we had senior players struggling a bit with 2 games a week 1
OutByEaster? Posted August 31 Moderator Posted August 31 So what are the squad restrictions on this? Most of our U21's are still under 19 so I don't think we'll see much of a change from our U21 side will we? The fixtures are identical to those for the senior side yes? Are they playing ten on the same dates? That would be a real shame as it will make it incredibly difficult to spend the afternoon at Bodymoor then make a mad dash across the city to Villa Park. If we promote it well, it'd almost be a shame to have these games at Bodymoor - our last U21 game was a sell out.

Last season games took place at 2pm mainly in training grounds of the club or smaller stadiums except Union Berlin who played at there stadium as they played elsewhere in the group stage Final and semi finals seem to take place over a few days in neutral venue 1
OutByEaster? Posted August 31 Moderator Posted August 31 I guess then that Kerr Smith and Kobei Moore will miss out, perhaps one of the keepers, depending on how UEFA classify U19. Other than that it'll be the full group that play in the U21's - hopefully they can do okay.
Tomaszk Posted August 31 Posted August 31 (edited) Remember when we won that youth league and really pissed UEFA off, so they changed the rules so we couldn't play. Funny. Grealish and Carruthers leading the way. Edited August 31 by Tomaszk 1

From memory the Chelsea team we beat went on to have a lot of joy in this Crazy that they've been the best youth set up in Europe in the last decade, lampard brought a load of them through and they just went on to sell them all and buy a load of shit It's typical UEFA that the senior team qualification guarantees a place rather than it being the best youth teams from each country 1

The youths play the day before the seniors if they're correct. They're also the U19s, so I'm not sure if putting them into the U21 thread is the correct thing to do.
East London Villa Posted September 14 Posted September 14 Is this going to be broadcast on UK TV or online? I can see a few fixtures will be on the UEFA website but I'm not sure if they will all be covered each week?
