One day, it's going to happen, obviously. I hope it's a six or seven years from now, but realistically, at some point before we're ready, Villa are going to need to start a new striker, right?

In my mind, I see it as three or four years from now, but I would think that someone in the organisation has at least begun to consider it, since it may involve long-range planning and long-range risks.

Some random questions I've been thinking about:

How will this process work? Do you think we'll focus on academy and in-house development, or shop elsewhere -- or both? Is tomorrow's big striker already here (eg, Duran or Rogers) or do you suspect we're going to need to go on the market?

Absolutely no disrespect meant to Ollie in entertaining the topic, because, if anything, it's a testament to his importance that one begins to contemplate painfully how we'll ever get on without him. Again, I hope it's many years away!

Even if it's just "I don't want to think about this, you nit," what are your thoughts?

i hope its way less than 6 or 7 years away, Ollie would be 35 odd by then, and with how we play him in to the ground right now, he would probably be pushed around the pitch in a wheelchair when he is 35, if we dont manage his game time as time goes on.

i think we need to consider his replacement being ready in 2-3 years time, if needed, heck, maybe his game time needs to be managed in a couple of years, with a view to not running him in to the ground every match.

At the moment, i dont see us developing his replacement from the youth ranks, as we dont currently have anyone who looks like they will be at that level any time soon.

It doesnt look like Rogers will be best suited to a striker role, and even if he can be, im not sure i would want to lose his all round game from deep, he's just too good there.

Duran....who knows, could go any way tbh, a lot might depend on how he develops, and whether he actually stays here.

im guessing we are already scouring the market for his future replacement, be that continuing to develop Duran, bringing someone else in, in the next 1-2 years to develop alongside Watkins and get more and more game time over a period of time, or just going out and buying his replacement in 2-3 years time, whichever way it goes, im sure we are already planning ahead, or trying to.

We can't even silently lurk on VT anymore and pretend like we've been busy all day.

Everyone will know when we are lying lmao.

I've been quite impressed by a lot of what he's done in recent months - but I'm not sure Heck is our next striker.....

who knows, i would pay an extra £5 to see Heck running around the pitch like a Telly Tubby, im sure for more money in the Villa PSR Bank, Heck would prob do it too........

I’m just enjoying the now, don’t really care about several years down the line as I will leave that in more capable hands of the club.

If we worry too much about the long term future then we’ll forget to enjoy the now.

I worry too much about the long term future in my personal life that for the Villa I just focus on, at most, the next few years.

More concerned with Emery's successor tbh, waited 44 years for him, striker to match Ollie, we have come close a few times in those 44 years, all seemed irreplaceable at the time but ultimately they was.
