The remakes of the very outdated horror films such as The Ring have worked pretty well. As did Casino Royale with Bond... but these films were quite poor originally due to low budgets and ancient technology.. but had the story to be good. More is known about it now so you could put in more accuracy and more background, maybr even sporead it over two or three films. tonyh29 Posted November 26, 2008 Share Posted November 26, 2008 My vote goes for the Battle of Britain. you could be in luck as there are lots of Rumours that Tom Cruise is starring in a remake ... be careful what you wish for though as it could turn into a America wins the Battle of Britain film but agree , the original does kinda make you cringe when you see the same plane being shot down over and over in the film ..sometimes they don't even bother using different camera angles to try and disguise the act they only had 1 plane :-) Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

Oh yes, its the Studios trying to make some more money. It because films age as technology moves on. Music stays pretty much the same, and so you can listen to music from the 1960's and it can still sound good. The song could have been made in any year. if you watch a film from the 1960's, you know you are watching a film from that decade. Things have moved on so much, that something that was 'state of the art' is now just laughable. also fashion, language, themes all change with time. As someone else pointed out, movie audiences are more demanding nowadays, which means that serious money needs to be spent on sets, editing, etc... My least favourite actor in the whole world. As far as 'America wins the battle of britain' goes, I hope they wouldn't be so stupid (again), but I'm more concerned that a remake would lose the neutrality and war weariness of the original. Some of my favourites films in there (along with a couple of clunkers) - leave 'em alone. If anybody tries to remake Casablanca I will personally go round and kill them. I must remember the next time I go past Chiswick House; wow this must be updated tp pander to today. Or when I read the Great Gatsby; wouldn’t it be better if Gatsby didn’t die. I am sure Brief Encounter would be improved if they have a sex scene for today’s audience. Its not to say you can’t remake a great movie and do something great, but the evidence would suggest otherwise. Do you honestly watch 2001 and dismiss it because it looks like a 60s version of the future? Do you believe that Psycho was improved in the remake? That Tom Hank’s version of the Lady Killers is really worth something. The film industry should maybe try to do something better than digging up old movies and remaking them...
