Ask and you shall receive. Case report that gives hope. Quote SUMMARY This case report illustrates and discusses the non- operative management of a complete anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) injury in an English Premier League football player, his return to play within 8 weeks and problem-free follow-up at 18 months post injury. When non-operative verses surgical ACL reconstruction is considered there are many fundamental gaps in our knowledge and currently, at elite level, there are no cases in cutting sports within the literature to guide these decisions. When the norm is for all professional footballers to be recommended surgery, it will be very challenging when circumstances and patient autonomy dictate a conservative approach, where prognosis, end points and risk are unclear and assumed to be high. This case challenges current dogma and provides a starting point for much needed debate about best practice, treatment options, research direction and not just at the elite level of sport. 1 2

TheMelvillan Posted June 6, 2024 Posted June 6, 2024 Quite apart from recovering from the actual injury, imagine how daunting the challenge of getting back to elite premier league match fitness after being off your feet for that length of time. Horrible

You must let the hate run through you. Not once have I seen you post something vitriolic or full of negative hyperbole. Did you even undertake your VillaTalk basic training? Have you even complained about referees, cried for substitutions or call the players “losers” or “bottlers” or called something “disgusting” or “disgraceful” for 8 pages in a match thread??? 2

We have our own opinions, takes on certain situations I don’t understand why attack and degrade someone for such. Is what it is Spoonman and if these people think putting others down will make them a better man they’re sorely mistaken.

I've got one for you, I did mine badly in 2021 during a stupid COVID era home work out...it hurt. Now in 2024 i can just about handle a game of table tennis without too much issue, and the stairs no longer cause me any pain 2
JPAngel Posted June 6, 2024 Posted June 6, 2024 I do worry about Mings' return. Looking at the loss of muscle on that side is staggering and Buendia doesn't seem to have been impacted in the same way. If Mings does get back to where he was as a best case scenario, could we see an inverted version of our current setup to avoid playing two very left sided players at centre back? For example: Digne/Moreno - Pau - Carlos - Konsa/Cash The above setup has Konsa/Cash as our defensive full back with Digne/Moreno given license to stay high and wide. Conversely, the below inverts that setup with Mings operating as a defensive full back who can augment the back line when our backs are against the wall with Cash or a new RB staying high and attacking. Mings - Pau - Konsa - Cash/New RB There's an added benefit that Mings has played left back before, so this role wouldn't be too difficult to adjust to IF he can get back to where he was. It really wouldn't surprise me to see Emery pull something like this as he's already done it with Konsa and has done it before with Foyth. Whatever happens, I just really hope the bloke is okay. 1
Popular Post TheStagMan Posted June 6, 2024 Popular Post Posted June 6, 2024 Regardless of what pans out long term just imagine the noise when Mings walks out onto the pitch in front of a packed Villa Park. 13
The_Steve Posted June 6, 2024 Posted June 6, 2024 We will realistically need quality to cover them which is far from ideal. We need to be realistic and patient. We simply don’t know what levels they can reach after such serious injuries. Everyone is different. Sports science is so advanced these days also. There’s many variables and challenges ahead. But seeing them back in some capacity will give everyone reason to cheer. 2
Demitri_C Posted June 6, 2024 Posted June 6, 2024 Just difficult to predict or know what these injuries have done to them. Gonna be tough on them all. I assume buendia will be ready for pre season. Mings not so sure. Kamara will be lucky if he plays in 2024 1
Nigel Posted June 7, 2024 VT Supporter Posted June 7, 2024 Anyone saying Kamara will be out till November...behave! He is probably jogging on the spot outside bodymoor right now! 3
fightoffyour Posted June 7, 2024 VT Supporter Posted June 7, 2024 Mings will be just as immense as before, Kamara will start slowly but become even better, and Buendia will explode out of the blocks fit as a butcher's dog and having spent a year absorbing knowledge into his giant footballing brain. I'm not worried. 2 1

You forgot fish puns in your reply, that’s a hundred warning points, and a slap on the wrist for going off topic. back on topic, I’m really looking forward to seeing all three back, especially Buendia, I think if he is used as a sub his energy in midfield towards the end of a game is going to murder most premier league teams. That’s proving he can still bomb it about.
El Segundo Posted June 8, 2024 Posted June 8, 2024 A lot of doubts expressed about whether players can fully recover and come back successfully from ACL injuries. Since the days when Gazza was never quite the same after his big knee injury there are stacks of cases where elite level players have come back as good and strong as before, if not even better, even without the recent advances in treatment and recovery. Players like Shearer, Pires, Van Nistelrooy, Keane, Totti, Del Piero. More recently Van Dijk managed to return to his best. I can't really recall a recent case where a high profile player's career has gone off a cliff after an ACL - Wesley maybe but wasn't his a lot worse than just an ACL? Is it a hangover from the Gazza days, 34 years ago or have I missed something? 2

That sounds like the sort of thing that causes career long aggro 1
