Marka Ragnos Posted June 5 VT Supporter Posted June 5 (edited) Three massive players, three massive injuries in 2023-24. Any thoughts on how you foresee the returns or Mings, Buendia, and/or Kamara unfolding? I can't recall us ever being in a position where so many fundamental players had the possibility of returning, two of them perhaps around the same time, one later. How will this play out? What would be some positive signs we should look out for? What time lines do you think we'll be dealing with? Should it have any effect on transfer planning NOW? Etc. Edited June 6 by Marka Ragnos 2
Popular Post MrBlack Posted June 5 Popular Post Posted June 5 I'm immensely negative about their prospects, so that I can be pleasantly surprised if they return with any semblance of previous ability. Mings is retuning from his second similar injury, and is much older than the last time it happened. We missed his height and strength in defence, so hoping our replacement for Lenglet/Carlos is a Mings alternative that plays on the right. Then we can have Torres + Other and Mings + Konsa as our alternative back line. Buendia in theory should come back fine. He's very little history of injury, he's in his prime, and he's slight of build so won't strain the repaired injury quite like Mings will. My hope is he's as good as his peak, but I expect it will take him half a season to get back to it. Kamara has recovered from lengthy layoffs and so should be OK, but he'll be out until Novemeber at least. And then probably not back in form until Jan. So overall, I'm low on my expectations... so anything from any of them would be a bonus for me. Realistically, I'm sure they'll all be contributing to our season at some point. And in any case, we coped fine without 2 of them last season, and if we sign even a mid table Kamara alternative, we should be OK without him for a few months. 9
Deano & Dalian's Umbrella Posted June 5 Posted June 5 (edited) Am I the only one who thought of this song when they saw the thread title? But basically, MrBlack has summarised the situation perfectly. Edited June 5 by Deano & Dalian's Umbrella 2
MaVilla Posted June 5 Posted June 5 Kamara wont be back until christmas/new year, so that a huge loss and the reason we need a DM this summer. Mings and Buendia will be great to have back in pre season, i just hope they havent lost anything from their injuries.
VillaAlex Posted June 5 Posted June 5 I think we will see the most from Buendia. I think he was looking really good under Emery before and he'll have the full pre season. 2
foreveryoung Posted June 5 Posted June 5 Heard Mings is struggling, this info came from his physio. 3 1

Villaphan04 Posted June 5 Posted June 5 not exactly sure where/how Mings will fit in to our defense. doubtful that he'll replace Pau at LCB (and why'd we even buy Pau in the first place if that's the case), and not sure if he can play with Pau consistently as 2 left footers as our center backs -- this debate will rage on, no doubt. 37 minutes ago, VillaAlex said: I think we will see the most from Buendia. Wasn’t Emery testing a back three with Konsa RCB/RB, Mings CB and Pau LCB/LB last pre-season? 1
Okonokos Posted June 5 Posted June 5 Have to admit, I'm worried about Mings getting back to his best. But he seems a very strong and determined character so hopefully he won't give in. It'll be a lot to ask though, sadly. One of my favourite players of the last decade. 1

JAMAICAN-VILLAN Posted June 5 Posted June 5 I'd even be tempted to add JJ to this list. Make that 4 players. And let's just hope none of the newer ones suffer similar fate pre season. 2

Konsa - Mings - Torres - Moreno Or inverted.. Attacking RB - Konsa - Mings - Torres 1 1

Spoony Posted June 5 Posted June 5 Do we have many happy ACL comeback stories? Would like to hear some to feel optimistic for them. 2

We shall see though. 1
Adam2003 Posted June 6 Posted June 6 I think: Mings’ role will be like Lenglet this season, he’ll play about 20-25 games which is exactly what he needs coming back off that injury at his age. Buendia will be right back into the squad, basically taking Zaniolo’s place and looking to break back into the team - again, will get plenty of game time. Kamara starts as soon as he’s fit again, hopefully that’s not too long after the season starts but realistically it might be after Christmas before he’s fit and firing… 4
