It will be hard to maintain top 4 and you never know if 5th will be enough for CL which is why I've gone middle-ish.

So much depends on this summer, FFP and how both the first eleven and squad look come the end of August. Until that takes shape more, we won't be able to get a real feel for it

Yes, 5th may be high enough, depending on the co-efficient, but if we win the CL, we will qualify as winners the following season in any case, just like we did in 1983. :hooray:

I don't think the results or the really low quality of football we played over the last ten or so games could allow anyone to feel more than average for the coming season.

Mostly around our end of season form and all the noise around maybe having to sell a key player like Luiz which I'd hate. Was torn between optimistic and average for these reasons.

Think we could finish in the top 4 again next season but also think we could finish 7th or 8th, it's all a guessing game at this point and have to see what business we do aside from Barkley (who is an ok squad player but doesn't improve the starting 11 whatsoever).

We don't get our index-linking increase on loss from 105m to 130m.
We don't get our CL money added to what we can afford to lose until next year.
We have to sell a star before the end of June.
Therefore we go into a CL campaign in a worse financial situation than we went into our UECL campaign, definitely down at least 1 star, and hoping everything we bring in works.

All of this to a club with zero debt, even though PSR was to protect against debt.

That's why I'm fairly miserable about it all at the moment.

I'm in the same boat as you BOF but I'm hoping it'll be offset by Mings, Ramsey, Buendia and Rogers (with Kamara not far away) all firing from the get go. That and some creative accounting to replace who we sell and maybe.. just maybe we can look forward and not over our shoulders. Time will tell.

The "last ten or so games" included an away win at Arsenal, home win against a rampant Bournemouth, draw with a newly resurgent Chelsea, and a draw with Liverpool. The "really low quality football" we played got us the points we needed to qualify for Champions League football.

Time for a head wobble?
