VillaChris Posted May 20 Posted May 20 My god this would be an amazing signing. Top defender for Barcelona and would do very well in the premier league. It would be interesting what the pecking order is for CBs Barca would sell. Cubarsi has had a brilliant breakthrough season and is still only 17 so with his emergence they'll probably move on an experienced CB given their constant need for cash. Araujo, Kounde or Andreas Christensen, one will leave I reckon.
Aston_Villan4 Posted May 20 Posted May 20 Diario Sport also quite recently stated Barca put a €100 million price tag on him.

villa4europe Posted May 20 Posted May 20 How bad is the usual Barca end of season fire sale? Someone will be going somewhere so not impossible but this is unlikely Sounds like kounde fits us better too 1
rbcuk Posted May 20 Posted May 20 Superb centre back, can’t see this happening but you never know with Monchi doing the negotiations

JAMAICAN-VILLAN Posted May 20 Posted May 20 Appears it may have legs and arms if true... I do remember when people mentioned him being at that game and we all assumed it would be a Valencia player Full article: https://metro.co.uk/2024/05/20/aston-villa-shock-swoop-ronald-araujo-barca-eye-quick-sale-20876484/?ito=newsnow-feed " Sporting director Monchi was spotted at the Estadi Olimpic for Barca’s clash with Valencia at the backend of April and he spoke to members of the club’s hierarchy. There had been suggestions Villa were interested in former Leeds United winger Raphinha, but now it has been revealed that they were actually discussing a potential move for Araujo. During the visit, Monchi asked for details on the Uruguayan’s situation and made it clear Villa would return with an offer should they secure Champions League qualification. With that now in the bag, Villa are ready to accelerate their pursuit – though there could be a number of sticking points. Firstly, Villa need to offload some players to comply with the Premier League’s Profit and Sustainability Rules, with Diego Carlos the player they are most keen to shift – particularly as it would open up a spot in the defence. They will also need to convince Araujo to move to Birmingham, though he is thought to have significant interest from some of Europe’s biggest clubs. " 1 1

Tomaszk Posted May 20 Posted May 20 If we're spending £70m on a player, it shouldn't be a centre half. 2
thabucks Posted May 20 Posted May 20 Remember when we signed Coutihno for half the fee we had agreed to sign him at - that’s how desperate Barca are each summer. They’ll be a deal to be done for the majority of their players. He’ll have bigger names after him for sure but also wouldn’t discredit us and our chances. We are trying to be a consistent elite team and players like Araujo will help us get there.

Much of the same was said last year when the Pau Torres rumors surfaced. We had Mings and Carlos who could both play in that position, and the money was needed elsewhere. Mings was injured, but Torres was bought in before that, because he was an important piece in Unai's way of playing football. If you want to build a good team, the defense must be in place, and this season we have let opponents get in front of our goal all too easily. Now I also don't think we will pay 70m for a defender, but might as well use the money there. Although I agree that the need for a midfielder is greater. 5
duke313 Posted May 20 Posted May 20 These links to Araujo and the links to Hermoso, I wonder is Emery planning a change to the set up at the back? Similar to Pep and Arteta who don’t play traditional full backs.
