Web traffic to Spotify's cancellation page skyrocketed after artists began pulling music over Joe Rogan controversy

It turns out that this hasn't been a good thing for Spotify.

a) They've appeared weak on dubious content.

b) They've had their really bad payment structure to musicians highlighted in most big media outlets in the world.

Chuffed.

I'm currently checking out YouTube Music on the three month free trial, with a view to switching.

It's a shame you can't export custom playlists from one to the other.

Social media platforms seem so totally obsessed with not being seen to sensor that they start to lose all common sense.

I ASSUME their attitude to sensorship is to protect their integrity in the eyes of their consumers but when the majority of your consumers think you're supporting something nefarious and not sorting it out they've surely got to ask themselves why they are being so precious if people start leaving them in droves?

It’s because the US has confused ‘freedom’ with the right to be a total gun toting Nazi arsehole porn peddling homophobic douche broadcaster of lies.

Then to compound this all other nations in the ‘west’ have decided US soft power can’t be messed with.

I'm not sure it's that cut and dry.  They seem reluctant to take down ANYTHING.  Terrorism, self harm, things harmful to children, bullying, the list can go on and on.  They have the capability to wheedle out a lot of this stuff but seem very very reluctant do do so.

The really surprising thing is that it's the views of a right wing throbber that seems to have seen people turn away.  I'm surprised it hasn't happened more often before on some of the above subjects

They allow anything - it’s sudden bursts of social media outrage they don’t like.

If the Rogan thing had been a threat of a public inquiry, they’d have left it up. But it was a trending thing, which they understand and so reacted to in the most minimal way they could.

Bottom line economics masquerading as free speech.

Another own goal from Spotify. Better late than never I guess, they've pulled the add for their new office in Moscow after being called out.

The user interface it so sh*t.

It is and its still better than its competitors

Though one of my favourite features is the daily mixes, they are making it harder for me to actually get the choice of all 6 mixes by putting Your Daily Drive (nice idea, shit podcasts doesnt work) and the complete and utter bollocks that is Daily Wellness (Go F*** yourself)

Spotify do seem to take every good feature they ever came up with and degrade it

ANd piss off with the podcasts

Strong agree. Not as bad as Apple Music though. I've been touring round sampling all the free trials then cancelling them. I used to pay for Google Music, which the turned into Youtube Music. Google music was good, Youtube Music is quite annoying, shoving videos in all the bloody time, but nothing compares to the shitness of Apple Music, with Spotify a close second.

Also Spotify keeps changing output. I'm casting from my phone to my chromecast when it spontaneously changes to my phone speaker. Not even touching my phone and it does it. Happened a few times now.

My ongoing issue is that playback control panel just decides to randomly disappear sometimes, meaning I can't press pause, stop, FFWD, etc. If I want to stop the track from playing, I have to go into phone settings>apps>disable app.

Sounds more like a device / signal issue than a software issue

Well, the way the chromecast works is that you use the phone as the remote. Once the (in this case) music is casting the chromecast talks to the interwebs directly - I could turn my phone off and the music will still play, much like taking the batteries out of your TV remote whilst watching Corrie won't stop you enjoying having your brain turned to mush. My conclusion is that the Spotify software is doing something to stop the stream.

I genuinely thought that the Chromecast replicated your phone. I just tried restarting my phone whilst casting and you are correct.

ULTRA, a podcast from Rachel Maddow, is excellent.

It's a multi episode history of American Nazis in the 30s.

Fascinating stuff largely forgotten and intentionally buried.

Did it feature Charles Lindbergh?
