Marka Ragnos Posted August 7, 2023 VT Supporter Posted August 7, 2023 (edited) Inspired by a post from @icouldtelltheworld ... I used to think about this sort of thing more often, but lately less. Still, is there a club you feel great affection for, and perhaps one that even count as a "second club?" Tell us about your journey towards getting your second club, or perhaps how and why you don't have a second club. Thanks! I'd be lying if I said I have a bona fide second club. There are a few clubs I tend to keep an eye on, more or less, but it's all so inconsistent and capricious, I can't see myself truly developing a second club. I like to see what Borussia Mönchengladbach is up to because we have friends who love them; I tend to know the latest situations at Man U because, again, a mate connection (and this mate does have a real second club -- the Seattle Sounders); I live in the USA and have never enjoyed MLS -- just never. I probably know more about what's up in Liga MX and Chivas than the closest MLS club to where I live. St. Etienne is a club I sometimes look out for, but now they're trapped in Ligue 2. I keep tabs on Millwall and Shrewsbury Town -- like, Villa, both "lion" clubs, so maybe that's it. I like clubs with lions on their badges? Maybe one day I will have a second club. I don't see a problem with it. I just feel all filled up with Villa. Occasionally, in the past, because of family connections, I've entertained a lesser interest in other Birmingham-area clubs, but VT has entirely cured me of that madness. Have abit of a soft spot for forest. But one team i have been following is wrexham after watching what reynolds and his partner has been doing foe that club and community cant help but admire them 1
villaajax Posted August 7, 2023 Posted August 7, 2023 Ajax My Dutch nan was a fan and would always watch them on TV. She would have watched the golden age of the late 60s / early 70s with Cruyff leading the way. I wish my local team, Oxford United, well, but ultimately their results don't affect my weekend like Villa's do. I'd be very pleased to see them get promoted this season but if they got relegated, I wouldn't lose sleep over it... 1
bobzy Posted August 7, 2023 Posted August 7, 2023 The mighty Newport County and, actually, Solihull Moors as a very soft third team. 1
Mark Albrighton Posted August 7, 2023 VT Supporter Posted August 7, 2023 Further to my previous answer. Because of family members, Spurs (dad) and Forest (brother) I have a sort of mild indifference towards rather than actively wanting them to do well. I don’t like spurs, but I don’t dislike them as much as the other members of the big six (and Newcastle). Wimbledon (dad, again) are barely on my radar. I like to see Shrewsbury and Telford do well (local, lower league sides) and Scunthorpe (birthplace), but again they’re not really on my radar. The latter two literally plummet down the leagues and it doesn’t register with me until after the fact. So that goes to show how much I’m invested. 2
Guest Posted August 7, 2023 Posted August 7, 2023 No. I go and watch Eastleigh - only because it’s important to back local teams that are part of the community. But i don’t feel anything, it’s just watching football.
ender4 Posted August 7, 2023 Posted August 7, 2023 Leicester City because my wife is from Leicester and supports them. The fairytale season made me like them as well. 1
Villatillidie95 Posted August 7, 2023 Posted August 7, 2023 No but I like to keep an eye out for boreham wood’s results as I park on their clubs car park when I go to elsstree studios and it seems like a nice small club. They sold sorba Thomas to Huddersfield and he is also a welsh international so it can produce pro footballers 1
Chindie Posted August 7, 2023 VT Supporter Posted August 7, 2023 I only support Aston Villa but I have clubs I 'favour' in other leagues. Teams I like but don't really follow to any great degree. 1
Wainy316 Posted August 7, 2023 Posted August 7, 2023 Always said Wolves growing up due to my Dad. But yeah, **** that now. 2
WallisFrizz Posted August 7, 2023 Posted August 7, 2023 Solihull Moors kind of. Very loosely. As in I think it’s nice when they win if I notice their score. 1
Seat68 Posted August 7, 2023 Posted August 7, 2023 I barely support Villa, so I afford Shrewsbury Town the same attention, in that a couple of games before the end of the season I will look at their placing. 1
Stevo985 Posted August 7, 2023 VT Supporter Posted August 7, 2023 No clubs that I actually support but I always look out for Kidderminster Harriers' results. And I'm not even sure why 1 1

Rds1983 Posted August 7, 2023 VT Supporter Posted August 7, 2023 Plymouth Argyle having grown up in Devon. Nice to see them back in the Championship and us linking up with them and sending players there. 1
StewieGriffin Posted August 7, 2023 Posted August 7, 2023 Carlisle United - my dad and all his family are from there. Doesn't compare with Villa, and I'd love us to get them in a cup tie so we could hammer them, but I like to see them do well and theirs is the first result I look for assuming I know the Villa one already. Got soft spots for a couple of teams, but not to an extent where I'd say I actively look for their results.
robby b Posted August 7, 2023 Posted August 7, 2023 (edited) AFC Wimbledon. When I was a kid I went to see a few of the Crazy Gang's matches at the original Plough Lane stadium, as i grew up nearby, in Woking. I went to see their first ever game v Villa when they got promoted to Division One in 1986. And Wimbledon won, it was 3-2, cracking game ! Edited August 7, 2023 by robby b
