Aston Villa 2 - Brighton, Liverpool and an appalling referee 1

Thoroughly deserved - not sure how we ended up with seven bookings to Brighton's two - I thought the ref got the big three decisions right and all the rest wrong, the linesman was laughably bad and the fourth official a little bit on the generous side time-wise.

Our last manager hoped that moments of magic might overcome his own tactical limitations, this one has us organised to the point where we can be sloppy and win, where even moments of whatever the opposite of magic is don't throw us off his tactical plan - that's quite a turnaround in a short space of time.

I reckon we're alright here.

Far from perfect but a really satisfying performance. There’s certainly a lot to work on but the progress is clear - even it’s having an actual plan. The solidify and ability to grind that out was really encouraging and I can’t wait to watch us again on Boxing Day.

In a word, gritty, which just recently is very un-Villa like. The players have immediately responded to his reputation and new methods.

All the commentators saying penalty! For me he ran into the tackle when Digne was just about to kick the ball out. There was no way Digne even saw him?? If we need anymore defence, it wasn't clear and obvious.

Great win, that Brighton team play some great football, did well to win that!

Sky Sport going in hard on the VAR decisison, however he wasn’t going to score the resulting penalty so it’s a non issue. The story is about Villa and Emery today. Sadly Hendrie is falling into the ‘not playing for Gerrard’ trap.

Absolutely love seeing a game out with gritty professionalism. Despite all their possession in the last 30, the only clearcut chance they got was that header that went well wide. 

The talk in the media will be the Digne/March penalty shout, but that's of no consequence to us. Very, very good away win.

That final 15 minutes when we got like 6 yellow cards for all sorts of shithousery was the proudest I've been of the team in a long time. For the longest time we have been seen as pushovers that are too nice, but today we pulled out every trick in the book to be the biggest bunch of words removed imaginable and it worked. That win wasn't pretty, but a win is a win at the end of the day.
