villa4europe
Say what you like about Ryanair but flights home for me are £18 with them compared to £140 with lufthansa, my lufthansa flights to UK in August are looking like 540€ for the family but ryanair would be 108€ (with 2 kids the times being shit doesn't work, I can't get a 2 year old to the airport at 4am) Obviously I prefer lufthansa but sometimes I just have to put up with ryanair, no one can touch their prices
Milfner
Manchester was fine over the weekend. Flew out Friday, was in security for all of 10 minutes at 8am. And on the way back I was out of the airport within 30 minutes and had to collect a bag.
fightoffyour Posted June 28, 2022 VT Supporter Share Posted June 28, 2022 (edited) Birmingham airport again, same Monday evening 8pm flight as last time. Looked like obviously new staff last time so inexperienced but a few extra bodies, this time was worse though - clearly amateurs, not enough of them, and too much ambling and joking around when people are clearly waiting and worrying about missing flights. The actual length of the queue wasn't too bad at first sight, but it was just slow. Even the wait time up to the scanners wasn't awful, at least by post-Covid levels, and people who were clearly going to be late are getting called forward (which is good for them but has a knock-on effect on everyone else who arrived early enough). However, I then got my bag rejected for the extra searches due to an apparent liquid that simply did not exist. So they had to put this back through the scanners again once they had a good 5 minute rummage and me insisting that I hadn't carried a single liquid with me. Now waiting for the bag to come back through again, and the rejected tray queue is full. This means they can't even let checked clean trays out because they're all stuck behind the rejected ones - a joke of a situation. Ended up getting through after the stated gate closed time, which I know is usually bullshit but I shouldn't have that stress through no fault of my own. If the flight didn't end up being 30 mins late I might not have made it, yet as it was I actually had time for chicken fries from BK. We were due to fly out 9pm local time (Sharm el Sheikh) with EasyJet. The flight was delayed till 9.52. I thought no problem at least it wasn’t cancelled like everyone else’s had been it seemed. Anyway we get on the plane and everything seems normal. About 10.15pm passes and I am thinking this is taking the piss a little bit but nothing we are not used to with flying. About 5 mins later we get the Captain on. He explains that they basically had a 20 minute slot that they had to take off by due to being late (they put it down to bad weather in England). As they missed the slot for whatever reason they could not fly out as it would now mean the crew would have worked too may hours legally by the time they landed. Flight cancelled. Chaos ensues and we thankfully get put up in a hotel for the night. However, by the time they sort everyone out, back through security, re-stamped out, on a transfer, into a hotel and checked in, it was 2am local time. We get told that the re-scheduled flight is 2pm the next day and our transfer was to arrive at 10am at the hotel. We get to the airport all fine. Flight is on time it seems. It gets to 1.50pm and we are still at the gate. About 5 mins later the crew arrive. We then get on the plane, again they manoeuvre us to get on the runway readying for take off. Nothing happens for ages. We get the captain on again, apparently local crew are not happy with the tyres. By the time they come to check it and sign the paperwork all over again. It’s 5pm. We then fly out about half hour later. To make matters worse half our crew had picked up a bug of some sort so my eldest two spent most of the flight with diarrhoea and vomiting. We arrive about 10.10pm in Luton. Horrible experience with 3 young kids. Still waiting for a response to my claim but my brother in law has had his rejected from Easyjet. So makes me think ours will be too as our complaint letters were exactly the same. They said it was out of their control. Much we can do?
villa4europe
I would contact one of these online companies to see if you do have a case you might end up giving them 20% for your trouble bad weather in England might go down as force majeure but I'm not sure - what did you actually claim? the 600 euro? Yeah the standard rate you are entitled to. I did it via resolver. Which is free to use.
tonyh29
Mrs H and the kids flew out of T5 this morning , through security in about 25 mins .. To help ease their staff issues BA have outsourced a load of their flights to Finn Air , however whilst they secured the Finn Air plane , it seems they forgot to include the Finn Air crew in the arrangement so they had to wait 90 mins for a crew to be found .. Hopefully when I fly out to join them on Friday it they will have remedied this oversight

markavfc40
Just come back from Corfu flying out of East Midlands. Paid for fast track out of Est Midlands but in fairness didn't really need it as despite being busy it was a breeze both ways. I was originally meant to go from Manchester but changed after all the issues they have had there. Off to Spain in early September and have again chosen to go from East Midlands. VillaAlex
East Midlands is a great airport. Only slight complaint is immigration coming back is quite slow compared to Birmingham especially if a few flights come in at once. But for outgoing flights everything is a breeze.
tonyh29
Went to Budapest last weekend 2 hour delay going out from LHR as they had performed overnight runway maintenance and it took longer than anticipated and were operating until 12:00 with only one runway coming back we landed on time , which seemed to catch everyone out as we didn't have a gate to dock at until a plane departed but once docked , went through the E-gates and luggage was already going around on the belt , so that part took around 10 mins just seems to be pot lack basically .. villa4europe
Back at brum this morning They're still doing that usual eurowings thing of opening the bag drop off 2 hours before the flight with 1 desk open, fortunately ive got a bag that can go hand luggage, security was packed but to be fair to them well organised and quick for brum, they're using the crowd control maze to slow everyone down so it looks more daunting than it actually is, took me 15 minutes at the far not jet 2 end

choffer Posted August 3, 2022 VT Supporter Share Posted August 3, 2022 To Rome on Friday with Wizz Air () from LGW. The fact that delays haven't been in the news quite so much has me hopeful. I guess I'll find out soon enough.
