Villa Shirts: First player you think of

I have the below picture on my wall in canvas form.  I just happened to be staring at it the other night and was thinking of the first player I thought of in each shirt.

Not necessarily my favourite or the best player, just whoever springs to mind first.

Aston Villa Football Shirts Art – Terry Kneeshaw Art

From left to right...

Row 1: Peter Withe, Dean Saunders, Dalian Atkinson, Mark Draper

Row 2: Gareth Southgate, David Ginola, Darius Vassell, Thomas Hitzlsperger

Row 3: Ashley Young, Darren Bent, Ashley Westwood, Ron Vlaar

Row 4: Idrissa Gueye, John Terry, John McGinn, Jack Grealish

Edit: I don't think Hitzlsperger even wore the shirt I envisioned him in!  All part of the fun.  Must have been the DWS (cows) that drew me in on him.

Row 2: Paul Merson, Mark Delaney, Gavin McCann, Thomas Hitzlsperger

Row 3: Martin Laursen, No one in particular, Christian Benteke, Scott Sinclair

Some of those make sense to me, others don’t.

I always associate the NTL with JPA

True.

Probs because he might have been my favourite player at the time.

Was in JA and used to watch River Plate at the time, wanted us to sign both him, and Saviola for a long time, couldn't believe it when we actually went after him.

I remember being as defensive of him, with his difficult start, as I was of Gabby in the latter days, and KD at times. lol

He was definitely the second player to flash into my head when I looked at that shirt.

I bet we could make a really Class XI out of all the names from those generations which will be named in this thread.

Hint: Asking someone to start a " Name your Villa XI " from these jerseys etc.

Looks like you fell into the same trap as me.  Hitzlsperger never wore that shirt!  As I've said in my edit, I reckon it was down to the sponsor.

The striped badge shirts remind me of JPA and J Lloyd Samuel, I remember that JPA used to always look at the ball and never the goalie when shooting.

Acorns shirt reminds me mainly of Ash Young but also Gabby

Genting Casinos shirt is Benteke without a doubt

32 red uncle albert adomah

W88 Wesley (first home game of the promoted season when we beat everton 2-0), just have a vivid memory of him scoring a nicely placed shot

I guess I forgot to edit your post fully! Hmm. Luke Moore, maybe. It’s not as vivid as the others.

No, I left him in because he was still the first person I thought of.

I would probably say Cahill was second.

Yeah I get that, I’m saying I didn’t edit your post to remove him, I missed it. I think of Der Hammer in the Rover sponsored shirt. But not as much as McCann, for whatever reason.
