At this point last season, they had won 4, drawn 4 and lost 8 giving them 16 points. They were in 16th place, 5 points above the relegation zone.

This time they have 11 points and are 2 points from safety.

”Similar”, but a lot worse.

But with 2-3 games in hand. Which obviously doesn't guarantee points but still.

Yep.

The current table doesn't tell the full picture.

Once all the teams with games in hand play their games it could look a lot different.

Norwich are down, they were down before the season started. The other 2 places are up for grabs. Business in January will decide if there is a risk of Newcastle staying up, hope they get it wrong.

They had 1-2 games in hand last time FWIW - not that it’s particularly relevant.

Edit: oh, you mean it terms of it not being much worse. Gotcha.

It truly is 4 teams fighting for one spot now.

I'm just relieved we're not one of those 4.

Posting this immediately after Leeds win. You make this too easy for us...

Today was a must win for Leeds as they next play West Ham (a), Newcastle (h), Aston Villa (a), Everton (a), Man Utd (h), Spurs (h), they could easily find themselves back in trouble after those.

Watford have blocked Dennis and Share going to the AFCON will be interesting to see how that works out for them.

Dennis Nigeria forgot to file the paperwork and he has played 7 minutes in 2 years for Nigeria, is another Watford player in the squad. Sarr is a strange one he hasnt played in a few months through injury so they might have a legitimate claim but Senegal want him banned

Just noticed Watford’s next three fixtures (after one had been rearranged from December) -

Newcastle (a) 15th Jan

Burnley (a) 18th Jan

Norwich (h) 21st Jan

The ideal for me would be Watford beat Newcastle, lose to Burnley and then beat Norwich.

That would surely put Newcastle in a right dire mess?

Even if Newcastle win today, they will go back into the bottom three on Tuesday because Burnley and Watford play each other, if Burnley win they go above Newcastle, if Watford win or draw then they will go above Newcastle.

They didn't win, which means if Watford beat Burnley on Tuesday Necastle will be five points adrift of safety, if Burnley get any kind of result in that game then Newcastle will go to the bottom of the table.

Watford beating Burnley would be the worst scenario for them, but either way they've messed up today by not being able to win the easiest fixture they'll likely get in the league  other than Perhaps Norwich at home, and they've already played that game and failed to win.

Big chance for Watford now, next two games Burnley and Norwich.
