Phil Silvers
Just now, The Fun Factory said: Barry, Zimmer, or Williams? ooooof that's impossible, I'd pick Barry probably because of the few of his that I really like. The most impressed I've been in recent times is Zimmers work on Dunkirk, the use of time, ticking, tick tick, blending with Elgar etc, I thought that was outstanding. What can you say about John Williams, so many, brilliant. Elmer Bernstein and Ennio Morriconi would be other greats for me. Another favourite is from a 50s flick called Night and the City, scored by Franz Waxman, the whole film is a technical tour de force for me, the story, performances, black and white photography is unmatched, the use of light and shadows was amazing, an all time favourite. How about yourself, how would you rank those 3?

Shows how important music is to a film or tv show, get it wrong and it ruins it.

It's not on there. The 'Beyondness' album was a standalone non-soundtrack record (although much of it was from a projected soundtrack to 'The Horse Whisperer', that the producers had rejected in favour of one by Thomas Newman). Infact I'm struggling with sound in general these days, I'm find that even with all the settings on my TV and soundbar that I just cannot get it right, in the search for realism sound has become a problem for me, there's a reason why I can hear every line George Sanders delivers, he speaks steadily, clearly and elegantly. With modern stuff, I'm seeing more and more stuff where its difficult to hear, whispers etc, a scene is quite and so.eone puts a song on and it's ******* Loud like in real like, brilliant experience in a cinema, but at home it's a pain, I'm constantly fiddling with the volume control and it spoils some things. All that said, it's probably all down to my incompetence.

Tegis Posted October 1, 2021 VT Supporter Share Posted October 1, 2021 (edited) One can put on a compilation of all the themesongs and they are mostly good to great to amazing tunes in their own right and time-period. Marka Ragnos Posted October 24, 2023 VT Supporter Share Posted October 24, 2023 Just some silly fun between matches. What are your favourites? Which do you hate? Which do you rate as great songs even if not as great Bond songs? What is James Bond anymore, anyway? Here's a table from Wikipedia. It's hard to find lists that don't rank them, but I wanted to find something neutral. I will put my answers below. Marka Ragnos Posted October 24, 2023 VT Supporter Share Posted October 24, 2023 (edited) Well, it's easy for me. "You Only Live Twice" sung by Nancy Sinatra is magical for me. It's a song that takes me to a different place. There are so many other of these songs I admire, but that's the one that sticks with me, year in and year out. It's what to me makes John Barry sound like John Barry, too. More below. As for worst, it's sort of a tie between Sam Smith's song for Spectre and "Another Way to Die" by Jack White. I think the latter is probably the worst of the two. It's just so melodically forgettable. "Writing's On the Wall" seems more a case of a miscast player. It's just not very Bondy. Way too creepy hurt incel in his bedroom feel for me. It's not a favourite, but I personally feel like Gladys Knights' "Licence To Kill" (sic) is way underrated. I feel like the cheesy late 80s urbane glamour of that song has aged very well. Edited October 24, 2023 by Marka Ragnos
