In fairness John Stones and his zero minutes deserves to get in

. . . but he actually, non-sarcastically, does deserve to get in though.

He played all summer as we reached the final of the euros. He hasn't played in the league, in a position where players are rarely subbed on and not all that often rotated, in a season that is only 6 gameweeks old.

For him not to be in the squad would be absurd.

If England go to the World Cup starting a player with zero match fitness they are in trouble. Stones rarely gets 25 league games a season at City and for me it sends out a bad message to others.

Why play for Villa or West Ham when you automaically get called up being a Top 6 reserve

Well, it's degrees isn't it. The World Cup is more than a year away. If we get to next spring and Stones has barely played, then it might be time to start making Difficult Decisions, but the season has barely got started after he had a long summer.

The hardest thing in international football is building understanding between a team, given the players have very little time together. Fortunately, by going deep over the summer, England's players did get more time together, and more experience playing together, and that should stand us in good stead going forward. That's not a cheap thing to throw away, it should only be done reluctantly when there's no other option.

You're right that it sucks that football nowadays is that Man City can have Ruben Dias and Aymeric Laporte and John Stones and one of them is going to have to sit it out each week, but this is just the nature of it.

coady has squad cheerleader nailed down

looks a surprisingly thin squad based on James, Shaw, Mount all carrying knocks and then lingard, stones, sancho not playing much football, doesn't even seem to be trying to find an alternative CM, rice and phillips masterclass vs andorra incoming

at least he dropped bamford

The Micah Richards effect. He's "good in the dressing room"

So would Peter Kay!

Southgate should be playing Mings and Maguire as first choice CB’s given Stones isn’t playing for City.

He won’t though.

I'm puzzled at Watkins' inclusion. hasn't even scored a goal.

Correct about Stones though, and Coady is shite.

And I've seriously never heard of Oluwafikayomi Oluwadamilola "Fikayo" Tomori.

Tomori plays for AC Milan. And started for Derby in play off final v us.

Really don't understand Konsa being overlooked still. Interesting if he does qualify for Portugal as think they're still starting 38 year old Pepe and Jose Fonte is about 36 aswell so would get more chances for them.

They've called up a fair few Brazilian born players in the past of course.
