Austin MacPhee

It looks as if the team are getting bored with all the technicality of these set pieces, look half arsed with them lately. For me, just get the ball in the onion bag and stop Cash being Rory Delap, yes he had a good throw, but if I remember, always slagged for it, wiping the ball with his own towel, wasting time. We don't need MacPhee, an if the staff we have can't get the team to take a decent set piece, the problems are starting, we didn't need a specialist.

The long throws are starting to bug me.

OK for a bit of variety but it's so predictable and whilst he gets good distance it's easy to defend, they don't fizz in like Delap used to.

Problem with a set piece coach. Is that I would imagine he is under pressure to produce.

Get the team playing decent football and they will be able to defend corners produce a threat from free kicks. For example is an opposition player running to the bye line and putting a cross in different from a corner ????

All this is part of theme running through the club at the moment in that we are overthinking things and trying to be to clever.

We tossed away 3 pts last weekend because Luiz needed to be rested for 22 minutes ! We brought Morgan Sanson in Jan for the next season.

Get back to basics villa.

I hate to come across all "Danny Murphy", but this guy really isn't producing results, and I was a lot happier when we didn't have to wait for Matty Cash to run 50 yards and find a towel every time we have a throw in. I'm ready to chalk this down to a failed experiment.

I think our set pieces have actually deteriorated.

Instead of just whipping it in we're constantly trying something overly complicated which doesn't come off because it's too intricate. You've brought everyone up and the ball doesn't even get into the bloody box.

And we look really exposed defensively as well.

Two successes this season, right? The Ings overhead, and Hauses's header. It's not much to shout about

It's worse than that.

I can remember 4 clear times we turned over possession immediately from a throw in.

I can remember at least 1 of our 4 corners going badly wrong.

I can't think of a long throw that put any pressure on.

I can't think of a free kick that was anything special.

Seems like an easy gig. Where can I apply?

Was the decision to let Bailey try the long throws MacPhee's? If so it was comically bad. Our defending from set pieces has become a joke, and our own set pieces really poor. All he seemed to be doing today was shouting at Martinez to take free kicks. It's probably best that we move him on, pretend he was never here and say no more about it.

I checked the numbers on Whoscored.com to see if I was being harsh on our set peices.

We have 2 goals from set peices, putting us at 11th-15th in the table, on course for 7.6 set peice goals this season. We've conceeded 6 from set peices. The second worst in the league. We're on track for 22.8 goals conceeded from set peices this season.

Last season we scored 11 from set peices, and only conceeded 7. That is damning. We've already conceeded only one fewer goal from set peices in 10 games than we did all of last season.

The Buendia corner in the first half yesterday was terrible, MacPhee was fuming 😂

Hiring a set piece coach isn't necessarily a problem

Him looking like he's 3rd in command at the club does...

With who we've lost his role sees  elevated beyond its intention, he should be way down our pecking order but he's in smiths ear all game
