Think part of the objective is to have competition at every position. If this happens, we will be set at the #6 and will have a real crowd at #8 with McGinn, Luiz, Sanson (and even Ramsey). Have to assume one of them will be moved on.

If he signs I’ll cheer him on but personally hoping this is a smokescreen for Tchouameni or Anguissa as stats wise they’re both superior players.

If any of the DM links are true at least the powers that be at Villa are on the same wavelength as us lot

I am a big fan of Anguissa, given we won't be able to get Bissouma as Brighton can't lose their two best players in same window without risking relegation.

One stray pass yesterday from Naka, I was counting. I though he was the best player on the pitch and his distribution has improved dramatically from last year. In Naka we trust

Competition. If we have two players who perform similar roles in the team we can let them compete for it. Especially if the goal is to have European football.

This club needs to have 22 players and 5 under 23 academy graduates competing for the 11 starting spots

Agreed I was never a Nakamba fan. But back end of last season and in pre season he looks a totally different player to the one that arrived a couple of years back.

I like him and there’s definitely a place in the squad for him but the problem with Nakamba is he never loses the ball because he makes slow, predictable, backwards passes with no zip. He also does not carry the ball forward. It results in us being so predictable and easy to play against. If we are to play successfully through the thirds then you need progressive passers and carriers.

He did both of those yesterday, I almost fainted

He didn’t really. Our play was completely pedestrian until Ramsey came on. He added real zip to the centre of the park (although at this stage Nakamba is still the better all round player).

For whatever reason Smith doesn't seem to rate him and wouldn't be surprised if we sold this month.

Nakamba doesn't do enough in 2 man double pivot. He is a ball winner and that's it. He can't break the press, drive the ball forward, or make line splitting passes.  Smith tends not to favor specialist, so I can see why Nakamba isn't always his first choice.

He was something a a Westwood player, but to be fair, he has been playing forward more to pick out players between the lines.  Did that yesterday on a few occasions.

He is improving, that’s what we have coaches for, not sure he has reached his ceiling just yet

Did you watch the game yesterday, that sounds very much like early last year, think he has improved considerably and is now picking spaces better, playing forward better and looks more accomplished for it

Ironically White wasn’t one of their best players and they aren’t going to miss him so £50 million literally was a no brainer offer to accept.

White is very good but probably a £25million signing really.

Bissouma would be an incredible signing, I’ve no idea about Anguissa though? Similar player?

Doucore… I’d back it.

i still have high hopes for Marv and think he has looked great at the end of last season and pre season. I have a wee feeling that we may see a different dimension to a few of our players now that ole biscuit shins isnt the only attacking outlet for the midfield and defence. It is pretty clear that over the last few years the instructions have largely been "get the ball to Jack" . Now we will hopefully have a more fluid 3 or 4 upfront giving more options and creating space all over the pitch

I was wondering what he brings that Nakamba doesn't, but then I realized that Nakamba is 27 already, Doucoure 21, so I guess it makes sense to bring him in and try to develop him.

I would have preferred an established CM, this a bit of a gamble, but at the price quted why not take a gamble if we are not prepared to pay big for JWP or Berge or someone similar.

I was impressed by Berge for Sheffield United against Birmingham City. He looks too good for that league, I’d take him for the right price
