Aston Villa are said to be "in negotiations" with the representatives of RC Lens midfielder Cheick Doucoure ahead of a possible move to the Premier League this summer, if reports from France are to be believed.

Reported by Goal, Villa are competing with Italian club Atalanta for Doucoure who made 33 Ligue 1 appearances last season.

Mali international Doucoure scored twice for Lens last term and helped the club secure survival in the French top-flight following promotion out of Ligue 2 the season before.

Doucoure broke onto the scene in 2018 at the age of 19 when he was promoted to Lens' first-team and also made his debut for his home nation in an African Cup of Nations qualifier against Gabon.

French club Lens are expected to sell their star midfielder for €15million this summer, as per Goal's report which adds that Villa are yet to make a formal offer for the player.

Never heard of him, so just watched a youtube clip, which I'm going to take with a pinch of salt but his first touch looked incredibly poor.  Didnt fill me with confidence but I'll wait until somebody puts up something better or if anybody knows about him.

Scouting report if anyone is interested.

Quote

"If there’s a stylistic summary for you to take away from this article, let it be this: Cheick Doucouré works incredibly hard, covering large areas of the pitch in both a defensive and attacking sense, but he’s also both technically and mentally very acute."
