Villa sign a 1 in 2 Premier League striker.

Villa Talk: Ooh I dunno, £30m, he's "pushing 30" and he's injury prone, lot of money for a backup, where will he fit in? Nah not for me.

Absolutely brilliant. Probably our finest hour.

TBF it's not Villa Talk, it's one or two blokes pissing in the wind. Ignore.

Ings got 20 premier league goals 2 years ago.

We've never had a player do that.

And some are not happy with this?

We have one of the best strikers in the league just joined us.

Wesley and Keinan Davis were getting minutes these last two years. We had El Ghazi play games up front, we had to sign Samatta.

And now we have Danny **** Ings leading the line.

I feel like the people who wanted Tammy are really the ones unsure of the move. lol

How long is the Ings contract?

3 years so takes him up to 32

You would guess that we've gone in to this eyes open and know he has no resale value, he plugs a gap, 3 years time we move him on and hopefully put Barry in there

That's another reason why I think it's a better signing than Tammy, Ings will naturally drop off and be moved on just in time for our yoof to come through, he shouldn't block them

Apparently we have the option of a 4th year.

Ings played 33 games last season and 42 the season before. I think the injury concerns might be slightly overstated.

I looked a bit more into this

In the last few years, the only concerning thing in my opinion is that glut of hamstring injuries in 18/19, and looking at the dates, it looks very much like him being rushed back and it being a single injury he didn't properly recover from, though that's a guess on my part. Other than that you''re going back to 2016 for him having a serious injury

Guys, Danny Ings is not coming here to sit on the bench in case Watkins finally breaks. So we need to wipe that from our thoughts.

My guess is Watkins will be on the left defensively but with license to work the channels, push inside and drop deep whenever he fancies it. With his skillset, he can be trusted to get back into position and do the donkey work when required. He will still be on for 15+ goals as an inside forward.

When it was mooted for Tammy, as much as I love him as a man I was less enthusiastic about his ability. Ings is the level of forward you make that 'compromise' for though. The pair of them can cover for one another too, as Ings is not shy when it comes to hard work. The pressing and movement laterally, between and beyond the defensive lines from the two of them combined with the blistering pace of Bailey will be very exciting indeed. Noted that Ings is no slouch either.

Buendia is going to have a **** field day.

I think Ings is coming here to preserve his career. If he goes to somewhere where he is the no 1 he'll be playing 40 games a season and he knows his body won't be able to handle that. We could probably get away with playing him about 2000 minutes this season and if he's 100% he'll be firing on all cylinders.

This signing is brilliant, I've loved Ings last 2 seasons, the things he does up front are outrageous. He's a fantastic player.

My only gripe is I will now be drawing and then binning our new line up several times a day until the Watford game. Until I know what Dean's plan is my head will feel like it's going to fall off whenever I think of our squad depth now.

Traore needs consistency and then he'll be a good player, the price we paid for him suggests that consistency might never come but he's good enough to start 20 games in all comps and be 1st choice sub

He's a bizarre player but he's not a lost cause, hopefully the challenge he now has will spark something in him

We've a squad now, though. Talk about an impact sub.

Traore's so unpredictable even his legs don't know what he's going to do half the time. Imagine you're a full back who's been marking Bailey for 75 minutes, and then Traore comes on fresh.

Smith says he will be role model. I'm sending the plan is that towards the end of the 3 years - Louie Barry will be close to stepping up.

That's exactly how I see it too, ings plugs a gap until Barry is ready, which with the quality of ings and then the time we've afforded ourselves in that context it's a great move for us

Lets not underestimate how much Watkins can learn off this guy. You don't get to be one of the top goalscorers in the premier league season after season without having something about you. If you want an elder statesman as part of your squad, this guy is not a bad bet at all

Grealish's injury record for the curious.

I cant get the data table to post nicely  like @Davkaus :)
