That’s unfortunate. Her routines were pretty good but just couldn’t get the landing. Still one of the greatest of all time though.

Olympic Taekwondo is awful to watch and nothing like the more fluent sparring Taekwondo code my kids practice.

Such a strange choice as an Olympic code as it’s basically stand there and kick each other.

I have no problem with Rugby 7s, which is a joy to watch.

Rather that than football, tennis and golf which get enough yearly coverage as it is.

There are some head scratching events though (horse dancing for sure) that get in ahead of badminton.

Badminton is in isn't it?

Each games has the chance to add new sports, I'm sure golf was at rio, this time its skateboarding, windsurfing, karate and I think a return of baseball / softball, Paris has sports climbing, brum commonwealth has women's cricket, that's the main thing each sport has to be popular, be available for both men and women and something else that I can't remember

Looked it up earlier whilst watching the taekwondo and my ex kickboxer wife was moaning that kickboxing isn't an Olympic sport, the court of popular opinion deems it too violent apparently, which is also probably why the fights were watching here do seem so lame compared to what they could be

But I like the new sports stuff, keeps it up to date and means that each country doesn't have to build facilities they don't need, London couldn't do baseball for example it would be a waste of time, Tokyo can but they can't do cricket

Edit - the other thing is they need a worldwide governing body who can register with the IOC

I stand humbly chastised.

The olympics is track and field and some swimming but not all 79099097 different disciplines for me. The rest is noise

I'd add velodrome-based cycling to the list too - that's fun and feels very "Olympic" to me.

I'm the opposite to that too

The joy of the Olympics for me is watching something that I only watch every 4 years, like mountain biking this morning, I've got more interest in that than I have in athletics or swimming, especially stuff that I know nothing about, taekwondo this afternoon another example, at some point I'll watch the clay pigeon shooting and the bmxing, that's the whole point of it, I prefer the "noise"

But as has been said before - if the Olympics isn't the pinnacle then it shouldn't be there, football, tennis, basketball get rid of all of that

3 vs 3 basketball apparently in the games? :crylaugh:

See I'm actually far more in favour of this sort of thing being in than actual basketball. Same with football and rugby. 7s is far better.

I just don't like seeing NBA and Premier League players in the olympics. Doesn't seem right.

5 aside football, rugby 7's, 3v3 basketball. That would be far better imo

Yep, Ive watched some.

No idea how it got sneaked in.

Must be something to fill out the TV time for the US market. Apparently NIKE are a big player behind the sport so I'm guessing they are pumping in a lot of money for it to be there.

Haha you may have just changed my mind. I was going to say it would be great to have a separate world competition for them that wasn’t the track and field, but then I thought ok why not just put them together.

Yes, those events are shit though anyway as you mentioned.

Its weird there’s 11v11 football in it, why not futsal or 5-a-side? There’s actual specialists in small sided football that would add something.

My understanding is that brum is having none of that for 2022 but they're trying to host some sort of "street sport" event parallel to the main event

Parkur will be in a games at some point in the future...

Forgot, breakdancing is at Paris too

Los Angeles being Los Angeles could be the games that throws a lot of young sports in to the mix, Frisbee for example

Edit - the next summer youth Olympics which they apparently use to trial events and has been postponed until 2026 has wushu / kung fu as a sport
