social media is optional, not mandatory.

the same can be applied to being a word removed on social media...

they're in between a rock and a hard place, Biles supposedly has a net worth of around $2m, she will need social media to provide her with revenue via her 4.9m instagram followers, what she doesnt need is 42 year old father of 2 Dave from Cannock DMing her to call her a bottler and maybe throw a racist / sexist remark in to the mix for good measure, probably because William Hill just banked the £20 that he stuck down on her winning - and the idea of that happening is far from implausible...

thats the joy of social media and the world we live in

They're not though. Loads of premier league footballers have media teams that do their social media for them. Biles could let IMG do all that for her and watch the cash roll in. She never needs to even browse to facebook or twitface or instabook. Give IMG some content, let them put it up and off you go playing tennis or golf or drink pints of Newcastle brown ale if that's what you want to do. You can even have your own secret account for your own friends/family that's not public.

They are actively googling themselves and checking what people are saying about them. If that's affecting your mental health then don't do it.

It's really not that easy though is it.

It's like saying "If you're anorexic then just eat more!"

Japan top of the medals table atm. Massive shock as the hosts. Who was the last host country to absolutely bomb it at their own Olympics?

Agree with some of the comments I read earlier in the thread. No idea how Squash isnt there but tennis is, Kickboxing isnt allowed but a dull sport like Taekwondo is and the Olympic football is a joke. How is this a thing? Should be 5-a-side. Make it intense and entertaining. No point having these massive sports like football, basketball, tennis, rugby there if they're not the pinnacle of their sporting discipline. The boxers are all amateur making it more interesting and competitive. There really needs to be a shakeup with the sports involved. Dressage being here is a farce and so is golf

It's always good seeing some smaller countries get the glory... Fiji winning the 7s again was good and Latvia winning the mini basketball

The shake-up has been happening for a while now with more and more Red Bull compatible sports being added each game. New sports like skateboard, surfing, climbing, kite-surfing, (golf & tennis) or bastardized versions of proper sports like 3 x 3 basketball, 7 rugby and I'm sure other stuff. All things that are quick and suits the kids with limited attention span and who are not interested in the Olympics anyway.

The IOC are gambling this will improve the dropping TV numbers but I don't think it will work long term.

In 1948 maybe, GB finished 3rd in 2012 with 29 golds, pretty good Olympics that

Just went through all Olympic tables since 1948... worst host was surprisingly Canada in 1976. 0 gold medals as host. Big oof. Greece, Brazil and Mexico all turned in pretty average showings. Predictably the American, Soviet and Chinese hosting of Olympics was very one-sided

State doping vs corporate doping. Considering the Oregon Project and all the stuff that goes on at college level the US should not be allowed either.

Japan won't finish higher than 3rd. They'll be 4th or 5th. 5th if we have a better than expected games

Edit: I've only just realised you mean the last time a host nation did really shit! I thought you meant the last time a host nation absolutely smashed it because of mentioning Japan :D
