Dean Smith wins the tournament with that squad.

It's gonna be harder now. Ze Germans have Hansi Flick coming in. Italy look much more vibrant, France will strong. Spain will have a decent striker one day.

19 year old to take that penalty...just rubbish.  After what Southgate had to go through after '96 and then he puts up a 19 year old.  Get f*&ked!

Shit manager Nick, give it to a coach that can take ti's talent out for a spin.

They claim they've been practicing penalties every day in training. Well if that was their technique they could have done with Neil Cutler coaching them, because other than Kane and Slabhead they were ridiculously bad.

It's a cliché, but you can't recreate stepping up to take the penalty when it really matters. I can't imagine the pressure tbh.

Mancini has done wonders though, liked him at City too.

He's an incredibly underrated manager.  Won trophies at 5 clubs in 3 countries and now on the international level too.

Cos he’s a walking contradiction- the manager said he didn’t play them due to it being their first tournament and then puts them on penalties 🤪

He honestly is.

How can you bring on two players who have hardly kicked a ball all tournament for a couple of seconds to take a pen.  Awful management.

Just before defending a set piece as well. Which nearly cost us then.

I'd love to see some stats on whether penalty 'specialists' actually score their pen

Hasn't worked throughout the Euros from my recollection

It never works to bring people on just to take penalties. They aren't warm, they aren't into the game, they aren't running at the pitch of the occasion. I am to a certain extent being wise after the event, but I really did think to myself 'huh I bet they miss' when Rashford and Sancho came on.

This is going to be reactionary as **** and with the benefit of hindsight, but Gareth Southgate, you are clearing in the woods and that loss is solely on you. Why in the actual **** did he give our last three penalties to two players brought on seconds before the shhout-out and the decisive penalty to a 19-year-old!? The pressure he placed on those three players that were already in the biggest games of their career is insane, and I expected better from someone who knows the pain of missing an important penalty. It's a joke, and I feel for those players being thrown to the wolves like that.

I was starting to warm to Southgate as a manager, but that decision proved to me that he think's a far better manager than he actually is, and he's lucky he has one of the best England squads we've ever had to bail him out so often.

Are you way ahead of us or were you hoping?

He looked like he had shit coming out of his arse. I was surprised with Sancho and Rashford missing. The biggest surprise was T rex saving one

Grealish starts that we win

Not so sure, Grealish runs around by himself and gets a touch here and there. When he gets the ball, he's too unselfish and doesn't take guys on. I understand he would be more in the game if he'd play from the beginning, but...

  • 6 of 7 games played at Wembley
  • Easiest run-in to the final of any team in Euro tournament history
  • Probably the most deep/complete group of English players of all time

Getting to the final was the bare minimum expectation of any manager in this position.  Southgate completely bottled it but he'll probably be rewarded with a long term contract, though because "he got them to a the final".

Run out of likes, but totally agree, another big chance thrown away by the managers negative tactics.

That was painful.

It's weird because, Southgate gets credit for taking you to the final.

But it's also on him for losing it as well.

Terrible decision making.

Waste of all the attacking talent.

That reminded me of a bad Villa match.

Gutted for the English.

Pathetic penalties as well.
