Pre season games: General Chat

Recommended Posts

I assume that nothing has been organised for pre season yet, given the lack of posts.

Do we reckon though that there will be a home friendly the Saturday before the season starts, like we've done in previous years? Would be good to play a decent European team if so

I would guess that we won't be playing outside the UK as things stand, so are we likely to stay local (say Walsall, Coventry, Derby, Forest & Burton) or possibly do a trip to Scotland, or a pre-season tournament in one of the few countries that might have us?

Sounds as though the pre-season will mainly be local axed from the FCG notes.

would be good to play smaller local midland sides such as Leamington, Walsall, Notts County and Birmingham City…

Nice idea and I see where you are going:), but I wouldn't include the last mentioned on two counts, they are not a football club and it would not be good to play them. I would rather play Rangers at Villa Park and I was there back in 1976! 🥊

😂 On reflection you are right. They probably would love to play a comparatively massive team like us for the ticket revenues that said.

On a serious note, was the Rangers friendly as bad as the reports said, it sounds unbelievable!

It was a bit "tasty" and far from "friendly".

I arrived at my normal spot behind the goal on the Holte End, where normally about 20-30 of us would gather, ten minutes before kick-off. My mate turned to me and said (quietly) "Welcome to Glasgow". We were two of only a few Villa fans that were left on the Holte at that point. Everyone around us seemed to sport a bottle of whiskey and a facial scar (we rather stood out in the crowd, as having neither). We lasted until half time, when a chap from a pub that we frequented noticed us, as he was being escorted out of the stand and past past the back of the goal by a couple of policemen. In the process, he smiled and waved at us, which led to every Rangers fan looking back to see who he was waving at, naturally we both did the same. At half time we climbed over the railings and made a sharp exit for the Witton End, as we neared our destination the players came out the tunnel and their captain John Greig's look made it clear that he was a bigger threat to us, than the Rangers fans that we had left behind us. Fortunately our friends had by then made it to the front of the Witton End and it was nice to see some friendly faces, as we jumped into the safety of the Witton. It all kicked off a few minutes later, when we went two ahead and the Rangers fans decided to make their way onto the pitch, rather than continue to watch their team get beaten. Happy Days! ;)  .

Aston Villa will entertain La Liga side Sevilla at Villa Park as part of pre-season preparations for the forthcoming 2021/22 campaign.

Villa will face a tough test against a Sevilla side who finished fourth in Spain’s top flight last season, once again securing a place in the UEFA Champions League this term, and have won the Europa League in four of the last eight years, subsequently going on to compete in four Super Cup finals.

Dean Smith’s side will host the Spanish outfit on Saturday, August 7 (ko 3pm) – a week before their Premier League campaign gets underway against Watford.

Sevilla

There will also be pre-season fixtures against neighbours Walsall and Stoke City this summer, in addition to a behind-closed-doors match at the club’s Bodymoor Heath Training Ground against Nottingham Forest.

The dates and kick-off times are below:

Wednesday, July 21 (ko 7.30pm) - Walsall (A)

Saturday, July 24 (ko 3pm) - Stoke City (A)

Wednesday, July 28 (ko 1pm) - Nottingham Forest (H – Bodymoor Heath)

Saturday, August 7 (ko 3pm) - Sevilla (H – Villa Park)

I was there at 1pm and we had to queue as they hadn't opened the gates. Holte was already full of pissed up Jocks who had scaled the walls to get in.

Soon as we got in the ground it started kicking off and we all got moved to the Witton End. You know what happened then, after we went 2-0 up!

I imagine with all of their international exploits and needing a break, we won't see the likes of Grealish, Mings or Martinez until the Bristol game on the 31st. Dougie L is off to the Olympics so guess we won't see  him at all Preseason.
