As it stands, something is missing. If I was an Arsenal fan I wouldn’t be sure of Arteta’s words. Unless they’re really planning not to get an attacking midfielder. But again it’s Arsenal, so logic doesn’t really work there.

The signed contract

Their board might see that as a win win.

Who would realistically want to take over? We saw the difficulties Spurs had getting a quality new manager, can’t imagine many people looking at Arsenal more favourably right now.

My theory is (sorry if this has already been said) that ESR has been earmarked by Villa as Jack’s replacement, and we’re showing our intent just in case Jack does move on this summer, however, Villa are actually pretty sure that Jack will stay on hence the mid market offers..

If Jack stays this year but moves on next summer, we have built a relationship with ESR already, shown him we’re not messing about and if we’re 100mil richer and saving £150k a week in wages due to Jack’s move, then we’ll be in prime position to offer Arse a decent amount and ESR a massive wage and he may well help push the move through.

So the offers have a two fold effect, one we may entice him this year regardless of Jack’s circumstances, and two we have built a rapport and trust with ESR and his representatives ready for next year.

I don't think any of this is the case. ESR is not even remotely a Grealish replacement position wise or anything. ESR only on reported 10-15k per week as standard for Arsenal youth players and was looking at increase to 40k but probably his agent creating our interest to bump that up. Saka only on around 40k after signing new contract last season.

If ESR signs new contract would assume would be 5 years so that would be that. There would be no look by us next season.

Still think this is hugely ESR agent creating the narrative

I think we just sniffed a potential deal and went for it. His agent may have been ‘playing us’, but what would have happened if they didn’t want to give him the money he’s after? Whatever happens, it was worth trying.

This has always been agent talk, but if that Agent talk gets him an offer of say £90-100k instead of £30-40k, it's cost Arsenal £15m over a 5 year deal.

If it gets Saka to renegotiate the same from £40k, it's cost them a further £15m.

£30m they do not have as it stands. A club like Arsenal can raise it and getting just Willian off their books covers it. But maybe slows or halts them buying Ødegaard or Maddison this summer if it takes thema while to shift players off of their books.

I'd love to sign him but had always seemed unlikely. Onto the next

It would save them £30m in cake alone.

Wait I thought that was all down to ESR

He was also quite good. The combination of him, Saka and Odegaard was pretty decent once it got firing.

Arsenal is one of the shitter teams at offloading deadwood, they had Jenkinson for about a decade and still have Chambers, Xhaka, Torreira, Kolasinac, Holding, Elneny and Guendouzi who they would happily get rid of

Then let Martinez go for cheap :D

They're a really interesting one, they have the commercials and revenue to still be a top club in the Prem. But their squad is so mixed with genuine talent but mostly ageing on big cash and then complete dross that would be lucky to get a starting place at Palace or West Ham.

Then seemingly aren't able to manage their young talent. Saka, ESR, Saliba and Martinelli are so crucial to them over the next couple years, would be lovely to see them hold onto the names you mention for another couple years whilst losing their young talent. Would be great to see one of the Sky 6 completely fall away

The are certainly the weakest link of the Sky 6 right now...especially with the Covid blow and lack of European football.

But they did manage to offload some big earners recently ( ozil, mustsfi, Luiz) that will give them some breathing space to refresh the squad. Their academy is also producing good talent (saka, ESR) so they won't drop off the cliff suddenly.

We just need to chip away slowly and try to reduce the gap.

So what you’re saying is, they have about 25 Shay Given contracts to work their way through.

I know he’s from London, but even so the lad should be able to write his own name. Wonder what’s taking them so long to sign up the contract he was going to ink after his hols? Curious.
