I've made my thoughts clear. The original article reads...

Author understands Villa are looking to sign midfielders.

JWP is a good midfielder that scored a lot of free kicks.

If you've made your thoughts clear I'm not sure why you need to post them again? And in that post not only make it clear that you've made your thoughts clear, but then actually repeat those thoughts again just so we're clear on them too?

is JWP genuine interest from us?.....or just a rumour.

I thought it was horseshit but I've asked around and a few guys I know who usually know when somethings afoot say it might be legit.

Maybe we're planning to have him exploit the millions of free kicks Buendia and Grealish will win. Could be top scorer in the league if so.

I like his dirty side as well as his freekicks. Hate playing against him. He's quite versatile too.

Not my first choice but sort of player who's great to have in a squad.

does he wee in entry's.

TRO asked a question. What is the point of your post bar having a go at me?

Alright, fair enough. I was probably being a bit harsh there. It feels like about 20% of the posts in this thread are you saying the links were rubbish but that's probably because I've read the whole thread in the space of about 20 minutes rather than because you've been repeating yourself.

I posted a lot early thread then went to bed. Surprised more people aren't reading the initial article at face value and seeing there's no there there. Didn't take long after it broke for some journos to tweet Saints have not received any bids and he's not for sale in any case.

I am not too sure about this one.

I like him, he is a good player, but do we really need him? Whose position is he going to take? Will he just be another squad player in an already strong midfield?

We do need a better bench though

He could take  McGinns position, fight for a place, rotate, or simply replace an injured player?

At worst, come on as an Elite level Hourihane when we need something to pull off a result?

My main issue would be the price above a certain amount would be a waste IMO.

I did say earlier in the transfer window, limiting ourselves to local targets is one thing, but I'd rather pay a decent fee for an incredible foreigner and give them time to bed in, than to grossly over pay for a local, unless they were outstanding.

Would be a great addition, but only atna certain price IMO.

Yes, I agree, will we really get bang for buck value?

I dont believe he will just walk into McGinn's position. We also have Sanson, who I am expecting and hoping to kick on next season.

In Smith I trust.

What I’d like to say is that from my own experience of seeing this lad play football for many years is.. please stop thinking of him as a dead ball specialist, he is better than Luiz and SJM at this moment in time... i think Luiz is potentially better than JWP, wait until Luiz is 26.. JWP is an upgrade on all of our midfield options as we stand today. In my opinion.

Do you mean there is more to his game than set pieces? You've worded it as if you think he's not good at free kicks which is insane.

I think JWP gives Sanson the standard to aim at. As you say Smith knows what he is doing if this is legit.

JWP would be a complete meltdown signing for me, even more so than Bent was.  He's total class and would signal our intent to challenge for Europe more than Buendia does.

He's not a CDM like other players people refer to. Just a CM in a 442 and Oriol Remeu is the one that plays the CDM role if any. Anyway guarantee the original rumour is made up

Actually they play with 2 6's Romeu as the sitting 6, and JWP as a dynamic 6. They setup with a box midfielders, 2 sitters and 2 attacking mids.

That's kind of what I was meaning to convey

He can press (so instantly something Hourihane couldn't do at all) and his passing is generally decent. Not the quickest and some people think he's a DM for some reason when likes of Hojberg and Romeu have played that position with him slightly advanced infront, Southampton play an odd sort of 4-2-2-2.

Edit: Explained above. Perhaps that's something we're sort of playing to do as we'll have plenty of CM options if Nakamba stays and Ramsey dosen't go out on loan and Jack and Buendia floating centrally aswell.
