Dwight McNeil

Meh....  McNeil is underwhelming and is the type of signing you'd expect if Bruce or O'Neill were still running things, except we'd pay way over the odds and expect too much out of him from the jump.  That said, if Smith, Lange, & co want him, I'm 100% for it.

We aren't getting him for less than £45m. Absolutely no way.

What on Christ's green earth has he done to deserve to be valued so highly?

I find this story hard to believe, with Grealish on the left he isn't going to play there, and we've already got Buendia and Traore for the right, and I know that people seem to think that any player that happens to have a bit flair/creativity about them can play as No.10/ACM but it really isn't as simple as that, as it's a role that requires a very speciic set of skills and requires a specialist, which is presumably why we were trying to sign Smith Rowe a player who actually plays as a ACM...

Of course people will say Grealish will play as the No.10, but if we were trying to sign Smith Rowe a ACM then the plan was obviously to play him there with Grealish on the left, we aren't just going to abandon the plans we had for Grealish just because Smith Rowe isn't signing and to allow McNeill to play on our left hand side.

Also I think this idea that people have that we'll sign another winger/No.10 then that player and Grealish and Buendia will play in some sort of fluid system where they keep swapping roles is a little naive and unlikely to happen, Grealish will be on the left with Buendia on the right and then with a new signing playing as the ACM...

Unless of course Grealish leaves, then signing McNeill would make more sense as he'd take his place on the left, or play on the right cutting in on his left with Buendia on the left cutting in on his right.

Exactly...  Burnley are a selling club.  No way he'll go for more than 30 million.

Would be a horrible signing, lacks pace, doesn’t get many assists in a team built for set pieces. Not once seen him play and thought we need to sign this kid. Actually it’s the complete opposite.

Be a good 21 year old Premier League player in 2021 with four years on his contract.

I don't watch enough Burnley games to say and when I have I've not really noticed McNeil much as far as I can remember. Know he had a good game against us this season.

Am I right in thinking that he's more of a traditional winger, left footed who plays on the left. Good at crossing. The type we've so far not really used under Smith?

I don’t actually think we’ve got one top 10 standard winger at the club presuming Buendia and Grealish are classed as 10’s.

Luckily, both of the aforementioned can play out wide.

So are you saying we do have 2 top standard wingers or not? 🤔😆😆

McNeil is a completely different style of player to ESR, but I did see on one of those YouTube compilations of Julian Alvarez that McNeil is a similar type player to him.

Apparently we want him… and the powers that be want us to sell Grealish for lots of money… and if we have lots of money from that, then we need to give lots of money to other clubs for players without even a fraction of Jack’s ability

Is he as good as Grealish? Definitely no. Does he have the potential to become as good? *Probably* no, but he does have a lot of potential, and that's what buyers would be paying for. He's four years younger than Grealish, and it's not like Jack was some consistent world-class talent around summer 2017.

He's actually a good player, people talk of wingers being inconsistent, McNeill isn't like that doesn't go missing from games and always puts in a good performance. But I kind of feel this link is similar to the Abraham one, in that signing him for our first team doesn't really make sense and he's not going to come to us as a squad option and we probably wouldn't play the money it would require for that either.

My guess is that he was probably an alternative option to Buendia before we signed him.

I think I agree with your previous post that he would make sense only if we sell Grealish.
