Seems a touch harsh to be setting Bailey's performance as the benchmark, when it's clearly the most impactful substitution we've made in about 10 years. If you're expecting every substitute to single-handedly change the game, you're going to be disappointed pretty often. I agree Buendia has hardly set the world alight yet, but I wish both the fans and the manager would show a bit more trust in him. Did we buy him for a reason or not?
nepal_villan
His chance will come. The current formation is not optimal for him.
OutByEaster? Posted October 3, 2021 Moderator Share Posted October 3, 2021 I think he needs to feel that he's 'the man' in order to get the best out of him. He'll benefit more than most from the return of Bailey.

I think it's time to let him and Traore (Bailey if he is fit) loose in the next game.
VillaChris
Only thing I can remember him doing was doing that 40 yard half volley out of play the other side of the pitch when we had about six in the box. Pretty underwhelmed so far.
villalad21
It's similar to when Jack played centrally. Just doesn't seem to get involved there. Play him on the right and I think we would see a different player.

Problem is when you’re the only one in the team trying to play a passing game, you’re not gonna have much success.

Perhaps I just thought he was getting massively overhyped when we signed him and so I'm expecting amazing things from him when he starts or comes on as a sub so it's a bit of unfair perception from me. I think he'll start Wolves game ahead of Ramsey so hopefully he can get on the ball enough in final third and do stuff. IMO Leon Bailey will be far more of a gamechanger for our season than Buendia when he's fit again, Everton game showed what's going on there and he looked decent at Watford aswell. PaulC
I don't think we will see the best of him if hes just being used a sub.
foreveryoung
He shouldn't be used as a sub, if he fades bring him off, but we shouldn't be letting a £35 million creative player warm the bench, we are not Man City.

jim
Poor again imo. That hoof across the box was woeful.

VillanousOne
impossible to judge him on a few random cameos, plus lacking fitness/preseason
AvfcRigo82
I think buggering off to Argentina may have a factor in this. He is a player that does need to be starting and playing a run of games consistently to get the best out of him. Hopefully he makes it back to the starting XI in the upcoming games. He chose to miss the Chelsea game. We them beat Everton and United. He needs to wait for his chance which will certainly come soon. And unlike his previous games he needs to step up. He hasn't been good enough so far.
