It’s been reported a couple of times now and Ornstein seems to think we’ll fight it out with Arsenal for his signature. As such, I thought it deserved its own thread.

If he's looking at Arsenal Vs us then god knows which he chooses. Yes Arsenal have been a successful club for a while and have the London factor - but they can't offer champions league which surely is a massive leveller. Combine that with his compatriot who hates Arsenal and how its run, getting in his ear to talk up Villa, well we might just pip Arsenal to him. Surely this is one that can be done pre Euros though...

There's also apparently 'a major continental outfit' interested in him, Norwich fans seem to think it's Atlético Madrid - they also seem to think they're above losing their best player to a team like us.

They said that about Lambert (I wish they were right)

No such thing as "a team like us" anymore, all of us in the middle of the table are incredibly wealthy and can offer the fee and the wages

Definitely wouldn't say no to him, it's a lot of money but he's a good age and the quality is better than what we have

Think the Uruguayan guy would come with more excitement but far more risk

Buendia transfer: Arsenal and Aston Villa face European competition in race for Norwich star - The Athletic

Arsenal and Aston Villa face competition in race for Emi Buendia

Arsenal and Aston Villa will face competition from a major European side in the race to sign Norwich City star Emiliano Buendia this summer.

The Athletic understands that Buendia and his employers accept this is the right time for him to take the next step in his career and the expectation is that he will depart in the upcoming market.

It will require a fee of above £40 million and some of the proceeds must go to Getafe, from where Norwich secured Buendia for €1.5 million two years ago and the deal included a sell-on clause.

Which clubs are interested in Buendia?

The 24-year-old attacking midfielder is the subject of well-documented interest from teams such as Arsenal and Aston Villa.

And it is not only English sides who have their eye on Buendia — The Athletic can reveal a major continental outfit are believed to have enquired last week, following his maiden call-up to the senior Argentina squad.

Norwich are still to receive any formal offers, yet if a suitable bid arrives they will not stand in Buendia’s way and similar applies to the likes of Max Aarons and Todd Cantwell.

Internal or external replacements would be sourced and that way of working is key to the Canaries’ model.

How has Buendia performed this season?

Buendia has enjoyed another successful campaign as Norwich City claimed the Championship title.

He scored 15 goals for Norwich and also registered 16 assists — creating more chances than any other player in the division.

In total he has scored 24 goals and made 42 assists since signing for the club in 2018 and Norwich are poised to make a significant profit on a player they signed for just over £1 million from Getafe.

I'm not 100% sold on him for that sort of money.

He's definitely a good player, but that is top tier dosh.

Ultimately, I don't actually care because it isn't my money but overspending is a bad habit to get in to.

Had no problem with Watkins because I knew he'd be a success. Does it make sense to pay double the price for Buendia than West Ham did for Benrahma? Not sure.

Emiliano Buendia: Arsenal and Aston Villa renew interest in Norwich star | Football News | Sky Sports

Emiliano Buendia: Arsenal and Aston Villa renew interest in Norwich star

Both Arsenal and Aston Villa have been interested in Emiliano Buendia before and lead a string of clubs looking to sign Norwich's promotion star this summer. Tottenham are also keen but he will not come cheap with a valuation of at least £35m.

Arsenal and Aston Villa have renewed their interest in Norwich star Emiliano Buendia.

Both clubs have been making enquiries about the 24-year-old, who has been outstanding during the Canaries promotion campaign.

Several other big Premier League clubs are also admirers and monitoring his situation at Carrow Road, including Tottenham.

Their arch-rivals the Gunners were interested in signing Buendia in January but opted to sign Martin Odegaard on loan from Real Madrid instead.

However, a permanent deal for the Norway playmaker this summer is said to be an expensive prospect, especially due to his high wages at the Bernabeu.

Villa boss Dean Smith, meanwhile, has a long-standing interest in Buendia since first switching to Villa from Brentford.

Buendia will not come cheap, however, with Norwich valuing him in the region of £35m to £40m.

The Argentine has scored 15 goals and registered 16 assists in the Championship this season, creating more chances than any other player in the division.

He has been a notable success for Norwich's recruitment department, with 24 goals and 42 assists in total since signing for little over £1m from Getafe in 2018.

Farke: Norwich may have to accept crazy offers

Norwich manager Daniel Farke recently accepted that should "crazy offers" come in for the likes of Buendia, right-back MaxAarons, and midfielder Todd Cantwell, then the club might have to consider the bigger picture.

"We have to be realistic," he said. "We are a self-funding club and will always have to develop our players.

"Sometimes you also have to accept if a player has outgrown the club, then there is a solution. We had this in the past with James Maddison when, without the transfer fee, it would have been difficult to keep the club going.

"Now, though, we are in a much better position. We are not struggling financially anymore and are ourselves playing on the big stage of Premier League level, for that I am not in fear that a player of this category has to leave."

Can't see any reason he'd pick us over Arsenal. Especially as they've a Spanish speaking manager and will likely offer more wages too.

If he's got a brain he will.

Until he’s sacked.

Why would he be sacked? Arsenal have the 2nd best form in the League since Boxing Day. Clearly looks like they turned a corner in second half of the season.

Just hard to see what would be reason to choose less wages and a less big name club and join us. Just setting expectations on this one
