Odd how Giroud was going to leave on a free then extended his contract straight after the end of the season....and is now joining AC Milan for about 2m.

I know there are many ways around FFP and this strikes me as another but will Chelsea getting an extra 2m really make a significant difference? Would be interested to see the logic in why he actually signed a new deal.

Giroud and his agent get money from the transfer. Probably more than a signing on fee at his age

True, but usually a free transfer is the most lucrative for the player. As was said before, the contract extension was probably Chelsea’s decision and bagged them a couple of million for nothing.

So I guess the Griezmann/Saul swap is off then?

Who knows whats going to happen. Club has been an absolute circus nothing surprises you anymore. From dropping 100s of millions on players they never needed, to replacing Luis Suarez with Martin Braithwaite its just very bizarre the way its run

What's in it for Lille?

Given how Sanches has come back on the radar for club and country in last 18 months they'll be a few clubs willing to sign him for 40-50m so seems a bit odd just to loan him out particularly as Barca aren't the type in their current state you'd be certain would stump up that money in 12 months time and will probably try to wrangle out of it in some way e.g. try to offer Umtiti to them.

Yeah it's a weird one. Can only assume that due to the financial issues in Ligue 1 that they're desperate to lower their wage bill and nobody has actually offered to buy him. That or they're hoping to loan a few La Masia stars in return.

Anyone else surprised Dortmund are desperate to hold onto Haaland this summer? If the release clause is real and he's available for £60m next summer surely they'd take £120m this summer and use that extra £60m to reinvest in the squad. What do they gain by keeping him an extra year (apart from having a great player available)? Is it that they don't want to further upset the fans after selling Sancho?

without Haaland they probably finish 10th last season, they are desperate for the Champions League money as much as the transfer fee

Gives the 16 year old wonderkid they have another year, don't lose him and Sancho in the same year, they haven't found or worked on a replacement yet

Maybe after dealing with his parasite of an agent they have a misplaced confidence that despite the clause he's going to piss a lot of clubs off with silly demands such as £20m fees, £400k a week + bonuses... Narrows the buyers down to only a few clubs

Crystal Palace have signed Marc Guehi from Chelsea for £20m

Not a clue how these big teams do it, been there 12 years, never kicked a ball for them, spent 2 years on loan at Swansea, somehow a £20m footballer

Then people say Tammy is no more than a £25m player!

Villa can't do that, no team outside of these so called big 6 can do it, balances their books nicely to set them up for more spending

Its bullshit

Only started to watch Guehi towards the end of last season, plus playoffs. Didnt know until now he is a Chelsea player.

Oh, I thought he is a poor defender, average at best at championship level.

Viera at Palace and already spending 20m on duds really doesn't bode well, no Eze until end of year too

Reputation.

Championship and lower Premier League teams are willing to take their youngsters on loan due to reputation. That in turn inflates their prices.

At the moment our youngsters go on loan to National league, and nobody will pay fee for them.

Chelsea and City are the masters of it. It's also a numbers game to a degree, they have close to 100 of young players around and on loans, only small percentage of them needs to work out to make it work.

Hopefully this will change for us soon.

I think it will with the recent strategic acquisitions of some of the best youth talent in the country.

Logic will say that they can't all break into our first team but, to cushion the blow, it would be nice if they're sold for solid money after successful loans.

Gollini off to Spurs, been one of atalanta’s best players, shame bruce got rid of him far to quick

It was rather thoughtful of Bruce to develop Johnston for Man Utd rather than developing Gollini for us.

Wasn't Guehi a regular for England under 21s. That would push the fee up by 5m....but he's still only 10m value if that. Seems just being a Chelsea player inflates fees by 10m.

At least the full back we're apparently close to signing won't cost much over a million.

Bit of an odd first signing for Vieria aswell. Didn't Palace want Steve Cooper? Probably set it up thinking he was coming in after Nuno rejection, he also turns it down and they just tell Vieria to sign him otherwise he has to stick with what he's got at the back.
