Hmmm, where do you go if you want some records, some sardines and a cask ale?

Ah yes, The Record Cafe, Bradford.

It was alright actually, Keith was good and chatty and sounded like he’d actually done ok out of lockdown as all that downtime had caused him to put everything properly catalogued online and that resulted in him shifting loads of stock he’d thought he was stuck with!

All the records were new, no second hand, but he’s mulling over the idea of renting some space to someone that might not be committed enough to having their own used vinyl shop.

Everything stocked was sort of loosely based around 90’s and Britpop and it’s influences. So lots of stuff from Primal Scream to Funkadelic and the most exciting thing he had, and the reason I went there, the final ‘86 album release by The Prisoners. We were both chuffed we’d found someone else that liked them! Absolutely great find. No rock or metal, no classical, no jazz. He had two dub albums and I bought them both.

Well worth calling in for a coffee or a beer if ever you’re at a loose end… in Bradford.

Discovery used to be be my go-to shop when I worked in Bradford. Secondhand CDs (and vinyl, although the vinyl didn't interest me, obviously). Must have bought hundreds of CDs from there over the years. Long gone now.

Tales of The Fall. I was reading an article (well a bunch of quotes) on VIce about the now departed All Tomorrow's Parties festivals and had to share these quotes about MES

Quote

Barry Hogan: One time The Fall turned up and, for their rider, took ten cases of beer, six bottles of wine and all the champagne. They cleaned us out. They put it all in their chalet to have a party. I get this call that they’re side of stage, and Mark E Smith is kicking off because there’s no rider. I explained they’d already had it, but they were refusing to play without one. So we took the skeleton key and broke into The Fall’s chalet and took their own booze and brought it to them. After the show, I hear this message on the radio: “It’s the Fall, they’ve been robbed!” Mark used to give me an invoice with a fake VAT number on it, and when I called him on it he pulled out a whisky bottle and tried to hit me over the head with it. Twice he tried to bottle me.

Stewart Lee: One night I got this message saying The Fall weren’t prepared to go on unless I personally went to the dressing room and gave them £10,000 in cash.

The whole thing is worth a read for giggles to be honest

Have you sold all your LPs @mjmooney

More or less. I kept about 200, on the following basis:

1. Known rarities/high financial value

2. Liked but so far unavailable on CD

3. Sentimental value

In 1973 I played in a 4 piece band that made a privately financed LP at Zella Records in B/ham. I have been told that this was quite sought after, not for  the great music (although the other three were good !) but because it was rare ! The keyboard player has now contacted us to say the a company in Spain wants to re release it on vinyl an is offering to pay for the rights ! I foresee that , at my advanced age, I shall now  be paid a fortune in Royalties  and probably be mobbed by screaming girls. (my wife finds both outcomes unlikely).

Spill the beans, name of band and album?

My advice would be to only licence the rights for a particular release and for a particular timeframe and not in perpetuity (or even close to that)

Well the band was called Poliphony and the album was called 'Poliphony , an Album of Jazz , Blues and Rock'. We weren't well known ; played on a Friday night at The opposite lock if anyone remembers that place . I left for a band with more work albeit nowhere near the musicianship. They got in a (probably better) drummer but broke up not long afterwards. The bass player played in a B/ham band called Mean Street Dealers - played at the Barrel in Digbeth a lot. The keyboard player, however , was picked up by Yamaha and worked for them as  a demonstrator; also played in an ace band called 2nd Vision - they were on OGWT. He now lives in California and is dealing with the legal side and , as per Mr Bickster's advice has limited the rights.. He specialised in computer applications to musical instruments and developed one of their DX line - don't think it was the DX7 though. So I could be whisked off to California where I would undoubtably meet Stevie Nix and .............!!

Nice cover btw

I had an imposed record purchasing ban until I listened to my backlog. It was a substantial backlog as I has also added to it via a trip to a charity shop. Today I listened to all of them and celebrated by going mental on ebay. People talked about this ebay sniping thing and I put it to good use today.

Can this weather please f*** off, there's something in the motor of my turntable that expands at a certain temperature and I can hear the platter spinning, it's really annoying for quiet passages of music and between tracks

Time to start saving for the new decks (x2), CD Decks (x2), mixer & laptop etc which has always been a long term goal and in the meantime the mancave needs rearranging and a desk needs replacing (its too big)

If the current work finances can keep up for a year or so, it should be doable in that time

The time has come to bring Black Peaks to its close. Over the past 4 years, we have dealt with some incredibly hard and demanding situations which we have done our absolute best to work through. Unfortunately, we have reached a point where we don’t feel we can continue in a way that is healthy for us.

To you, our fans, friends, and family. Thank you for being the greatest support network we could’ve ever hoped for. We have achieved things that we never thought would be possible when we began this journey. So, for supporting our vision, we owe you our utmost gratitude.

A special thank you to our team, who we believe to be some of the best in business. It has been our pleasure to learn from and grow with these wonderful humans over the last 10 years and we couldn’t have done it without them.

All our love,

Joe, Liam, Will & Dave.

I know they have a few fans on here but Bleak Peaks have called its quit. Recall they have cancelled some shows due to health so may have caught up with them.
