This is v interesting. Thank you for suggesting it.

Reminds me of the American football plays: v sophisticated stuff.

We've spotted one of our weaknesses and are implementing ways to improve. I can't wait to see some of the routines (rather than the hoof-ball-not-beating-the-first-man we have seen at set pieces over the last couple of years).

Your welcome I was like "who is he" pull articles about his via image so pic show this

I like mmmmm must be good articles as I used be coach and short term manager might worth learn knowledge for future.

And in turn it is very good article.

Yeh kind of American football style playbook

it is very good used it turn threat all of the time with Jack grealish win foul and corner threat which our poor so he bring our skill talent dribble and passing more threat rather kick cross all of time and failed goal like last season which very good to see.

Plan a-z set piece 😉 and open play threat to give them thinks twice when play against villa.

You're spot on with the tactical importance of this appointment. This thread really deserves more attention...

Deano did make a comment a while back about players not capable of remembering set play info. This can only be a good move .

Wonder if they’ve ever considered using pneumonics to help players remember set plays? Takes a little while to think them up but once learned they’re rarely forgotten

Would noise be an issue

Only at VP…

But seriously, it shouldn’t be too difficult to communicate. Would need to understand how they structure their routines first and go from there, but the idea is to get the basic building blocks distilled into key words that automatically trigger mental processes - I should be covering this space / marking that guy / moving in this way, etc.

Never glookedich in to it but I'd assume the new guy has cross trained other sports to hone his craft🤞

I don’t know if they’re used in sport at all, but remember them being really useful as a young recruit for remembering and carrying out routine tasks correctly, in the right order and under pressure.

Seems like they could be applied to set-plays on a football pitch if thought through and trained in.

Just a fleeting thought that might not work at all, I’d never considered it before.

He has come here from Midtjylland (Brentford sister club) which generally is the best place to learn/be if you are a set-piece coach. A couple of years ago it felt like they were scoring on every single corner or throw-in here in Denmark.

You can read more about it in this article from Sky about set-piece coaching. https://www.skysports.com/football/news/11095/12361303/man-utd-and-arsenal-have-hired-set-piece-coaches-but-what-do-they-do-and-do-they-provide-an-edge

See for example this quote:
"One thing many set-piece coaches have in common - renowned Italian Gianni Vio as well as Jover, Georgson and Buttgereit - is that they have at some point worked under Brentford and FC Midtjylland owner Matthew Benham, a former professional gambler whose analytical, statistics-led approach to running his clubs includes an emphasis on specialist coaching."

I have nothing but respect for Brentford and the way they're run. If Midtjylland is anything at all like it, this guy will be a revelation for us.

I wonder who would be the main beneficiary of this appointment. Would it be Mings or Konsa scoring more headers, maybe a bit of a resurgence for Connor, or someone else entirely?
